Pete
Great work so far, Ryan. I really admire your scratchbuilding on this one.
PlasticWeapons
Yes! I've completed all the airframe scratchbuilding I needed on the Monogram Apache. I can now concentrate on gluing the small bits and painting now. The loadout will be 8 Hellfire, a fuel tank, and a rocket pod. The pod will need some scratchbuild Hydra rocket heads made from styrene rod. Will do that in a few days... IR Jammer: made from styrene tube, punched styrene discs, and styrene strip and stretched sprue. Engine nacelle bumpers still need the "feet" attached. Scratchbuilt details (in white) are made from styrene sheet. Pitot tubes (still not completed) inserted in stub wings were made from brass tubing. Nothing glued in yet! PlasticWeapons
Heh heh. Long over due update! Finally had time to spray on some Model Master "Light Sea Gray" around the canopy edges and used it to spray a light primer coat to check for seams. With vacation coming up for me next week, I should get a lot more done soon (as long as the honey-do list is short).

PlasticWeapons
it's look'n pretty good Ryan, you better finish this one! ;) Thanks B. Yeah, I've got vacation time next week. Hoping to do just that! I think I'll rob my AH-1S kit for the IR jammer as I'm not happy with the quickly scratchbuilt one I made. PlasticWeapons
Nearing the end of this build! So much for "out of the box!" Not! I added the True Details' cable cutters/braces, antennas, and kit grab handles last night...hoping not to break off any of the parts... So can anyone answer this question? Can't find a definitive photo for 1990-1991 time frame. Edited February 6, 2011 by PlasticWeapons
Pete
Looks like flat to me here, here and here. Hemi.
PlasticWeapons
Thanks Pete (and Cobrahistorian) for the answers (FAIL on the Hemi info ) . Cool, I can just punch some discs out of 0.25mm thick Evergreen black styrene sheet and glue them on after painting. Edited February 7, 2011 by PlasticWeapons
PlasticWeapons
Hi guys! I sprayed on Model Master enamel Army "Helo" drab as a base coat last weekend and now this weekend sprayed on the much darker version of "Helo" drab using Model Master Acrylic paint. Thanks to Arkhunter2002 for the tip! More detailing, decaling, and assembling scheduled for the upcoming week. Almost there! Yay!
Benner
looking good ryan, but, is the 2 weeks left in the GB enough time ? .. dun dun dah :)
Rampage55
Looks great so far Ryan. Interesting loadout with that fuel tank. Is that included in the Monogram kit? Mark

Mark no it isn't, the only time I know of that they were fitted with a combat load out with fuel tank was with Task Force Normandy
PlasticWeapons
Futured, decaled, glued stub wings on, needs a flat coat, some weathering, add on the weapons and chain gun plus the other small stuff...should be done by tomorrow afternoon! LOL. This kit has been fighting me since the start. The decals I used were cobbled together from Monogram kit decals, Hasegawa decals, and a Revell of Germany sheet; of course they all have been silvering like crazy despite the Future coating. Ugh. Dirty pic:
Pete
Looks like you will actually be able to finish this one, Ryan, Congrats! I really like how it's turning out.

Like I said, this kit has been fighting me off and on. Almost discarded it mid-build, LOL. Note to self, BUILD the Hasegawa kit next time. Just waiting on some missing exhaust pieces in the Hasegawa kit I bought from ARC and will probably start on another Apache. Ryan

PlasticWeapons
~12 hours left in the day ... will PW finish .. dun dun dah Gee, I don't know Benner. It's 20:49 Pacific time I'm posting this. Am I done? Oh yeah!!!! More photos to follow when time permits. BTW, I didn't bother fixing any more errors in the Monogram kit. I felt that I spent enough time correcting some of the main issues already. There's still a lot more detail missing! Don't mind the lack of droop in the rotor blades (or the silvered serial numbers, LOL), the plan was to photograph the finished kit with spinning main/tail rotors but unfortunately, I didn't have time to install better axles for them and the plastic ones didn't allow unhindered rotation. Oh well... Edited March 5, 2011 by PlasticWeapons

FAIL!!!! just kidding, congrats on finishing a fine build :)
