petebuilt
I wonder if I can make one of these with the Italeri UH-1N, Belcher Bits 412 conversion, Cobra Company's water tank, and a little scratch-building? Fireball Modelworks has the artwork for the Los Angeles County rig. Tgoetz
10 points if anyone can tell me why the LACoFD birds are yellow white and black. Doesn't it have something to do with the use of inmates of the CA Department of Corrections in wildfire supression?
robert61267
They drop the cons onto the fire???? Well, the human body is 98% water. I guess it might work...
Matt Shropshire
They drop the cons onto the fire???? Well, the human body is 98% water. I guess it might work... Actually, a large number of the ground crew that fight forest fires, at least in Ca, are 'convict' firefighters. From what I have read, it is actually a highly sought for duty. code20photog
The convict crews don't fly in the helicopters. LACoFD has their own paid "fly" crews which are very similar to USFS "Hotshot" crews. The reason the LACoFD helos are black yellow and white, is in the 70s, they needed to buy a helicopter, and found a used Huey being sold by a logging company. It was painted black yellow and white, (A little different scheme from the updated style on today's helos). It helped differentiate the county colors from the LAFD helicopters, and it stuck. Tgoetz
I did find out that all the paid firefighters at a wildfire wear yellow and the inmates wear orange. Maybe the color of the helicopters are the reason for that?
robert61267
I know, Matt, I was kidding. Get it? Dropping cons into the fire? Okay, a bad joke. I live here in SoCal, so I see those birds, and similar ones, fairly often.
