TomcatFanatic123
Hi all;How many of the same kits can you have before you are hoarding? 3, 5, 10,more? Slugman Well, if 3, 5 or 10 is hoarding, I'm in SERIOUS trouble ...I've got at least 75 in the stash, maybe more. Edited August 15, 2010 by TomcatFanatic123
Tricose
I personally don't consider "hoarding", I call it plans in action. Tricose
phantom
Its not really hoarding if your have every "plan" to build them.

Steve N
Oh that's light weight...try 500 unbuilt in the basement . Yeah this is mandie, Steve has about 500 unbuilt and I have 150. It's not hoarding, it's collecting. Mandie ( sorry honey, too lazy to change over)
Steve N
Hmmmm..posting at nearly 1:00 am? You must really be enjoying the new TV! Oh, just to clarify, those 500 are not all the same kit. I've actually only got a few duplicates..usually subjects that have a lot of markings variety. The Real Steve N (posting from work.) Old Blind Dog
OK, so the OP's question was; how many copies of the SAME kit do you have to have before it can be called hoarding? Depends on how many copies you need to build one model satisfactorily. In my case, this is usually 3 copies, sometimes fewer, sometimes more. So, for me, 6 or 10 duplicate copies would not be hoarding if I planned to complete 2 to 5 models. 20 to 50 might be teetering on the edge, but, again, not if I sincerely intend to build 10 to 25 models of the same plane. I could see myself doing this with, say, Hasegawa 1/72 Zeros, Tamiya P-47s, Corsairs, FW 190s or Spitfires. There are some kits, IMHO, you can never have enough of, either to build or to use as donors. cheers Old Blind Dog
panthergreen
I have about 5 or 6 1/48 tamiya lancasters to build 7 or 8 1/35 dragon tiger 1's to build 6 or 7 1/48 bf110 G-4 nightfighters (monogram with CE nacelles and eduards version) 8 or 9 1/48 dragon Ju88 C6, G1 and G6's to build all have schemes/markings to use, one day....................................................... ChernayaAkula
'nuff said! :) 12 RoG Hunters and 9 Academy Hornets. Those are just the most I have of the exact same boxing. From the same moulds but in different boxes .... : :D
PlasticWeapons
It's okay trying to emulate AMARC/AMARG, in plastic form, right? :D
Camus272
If 3 or 5 copies constitutes hoarding we're all in a lot of trouble, and if anybody thinks that way, they may be in the wrong forum. As for the most copies of one kit, I think I have about 18 Revell F-5E's, (hey I have a lot of aggressors to build). But, I don't think hoarding relates to a number specifically. If you have plans for each kit then there's a reason to have it. If you just can't stop buying them because they are so cool, that may be a problem. (I have that impulse everytime I see a Tamiya F-16). But since I have each project entered into a database, detailing the proper kit, the necessary decals, weapons, and aftermarket modifications, each project will become a completely sepaarate item, regardless of its kit of origin. Steve N
If you just can't stop buying them because they are so cool, that may be a problem. I have that impulse a bit, but the one I really fight is "Sure, I've already got that kit, but I just can't pass up another one at that price!" That's how I ended up with two Fujimi 1/72 J1N "Irvings." I'll be lucky to ever build even one, but I ran across another for about a quarter of what it usually goes for, so I grabbed it. Unfotunately, it's the same rather obscure variant as the one I already have (the hump-back version with the oblique cannons.) SN

kenlilly106
I think the line between hoarding and collecting is that hoarding has a serious impact on your family or safety while collecting is more of an organized accumulation. If you had 50 kits just laying around in the model where they were a trip hazard, that would probably be hoarding. 50 kits organized nicely on a shelf? Collecting. Gundamhead
'nuff said! 12 RoG Hunters and 9 Academy Hornets. Those are just the most I have of the exact same boxing. From the same moulds but in different boxes .... : See, it's odd that this is odd to me, even though I do get it. Why so many of the same boxing? Building that particular squadron, OK, but if you wait a little more, you get the the new artwork and decals with later releases. But I get it, cause I do the same, only for me, it's the same exact kits, just new art and decals. But so many of the same release just doesn't appeal to me. I guess I like my variety the same only different. ;)
crazydon
It's not hoarding. You see, after all of you are turned into zombies by aliens it'll give me something to do when I ain't shooting zombies....got relax ya know :P

johnny_7713
See, it's odd that this is odd to me, even though I do get it. I think there are quite a few decal sheets that allow you to build several aircraft from the same sheet. E.g. Xtradecal has a 'Hunters of the World' sheet (or whatever its called), that has enough decals to make about a dozen hunters, one from each country. So if you want to have an overview collection of Hunters in foreign service you buy that sheet and the appropriate number of Hunter kits, something I'm considering doing (in a, 'yeah that sounds like a cool idea' kinda way)
Alvis 3.1
It's hoarding when a family member makes disparaging comments about the stash. Or when you are caught in a kit avalanche and it takes almost 20 minutes to get back out of it. Al P.
ChernayaAkula
Why Moritz, why?!You don´t build anyways!....Still waiting for that F-1 you promised! why so many hawker hunters lol i saw a real one today I love the Hunter! Best-looking aircraft EVER! See, it's odd that this is odd to me, even though I do get it. The thing with the many Hunters is that Revell only released this boxing of the FGA.9. It's without a doubt the best kit of the Hunter and it has great decals for the stencils as well. And as Johnny said, there are several nice decals sheets containing loads of Hunters from all over the world. Subjects I intend to build: Kenya, Jordan, Oman, Rhodesia, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Somalia, Qatar, RAF, Belgium, ... And some whifs. The F/A-18s? Well, again, the best kit of the subject, only boxing so far, has great decals and the F/A-18A boxing allows you to build both As and Cs. Subjects: Several USN (at least 4) and USMC (at least 2) aircraft, Spain, Australia, Canada, Kuwait... As for exact same kit as opposed to exact same boxing: Hasegawa and 1/72 unless specified: 12 Mitsubishi F-2 9 F-15C 8 Revell F-16C 7 1/144 Revell F-14D 6 F/A-18F 6 F-14A 6 F-14B 6 F-14D 6 J-35 Draken 5 F/A-18E ... All neatly stashed away in shelves. So, that makes me a collector and not a hoarder, right? On the other hand, when going by Alvis' definition including disparaging comments by family members.... Andy Mullen
Shots taken in 2007, since then I have built 8 and bought another 2 I think there are quite a few decal sheets that allow you to build several aircraft from the same sheet. tempestwulf
Hoarding...who's hoarding? Not me, i don't hoard. I INVEST!!! You have to remember that kits (in general) have a resale value even if it's less then the original retail price, but can be buffed by a/market items. My stash is about 100 kits held in a storage cupboard in my hall (which I often stand and gaze while standing next to my cabinet thinking - "Which next to fill that gap?"). Duplicates (all 1/72) wise I've got two Hobbyboss A-7's (A & E), H/B f-105 (D&G), 2 Hase P-51B, 4 Hase A6M (2b, 5c, 8, N) - Yes I have on of hase's special edition A6M8's with resin parts. Interesting parts too. I usually only have doubles but triples are rare.
The_Animal
I've only got 2 kits out of my stash that are the exact same boxing. The Esci 1/48 MiG 23S Flogger. And that's only because some damned jacksnipe decided to wander off with the Esci MiG 27 that I was coveting.
