Yuri
Yeah... it finally happened... Got fired yesterday... I knew it was coming... well... it doesn't help your career when you tell your boss that he's wrong and unless there's definitely a change of pace he won't get through The specific reasons? Uh... not a real will to talk about that.... but bulls*it after all.... probably the fact I had much more experience than the boss... (he has less than a years' experience in this field... I worked there for 15 years!) but if he can't understand who has the knowledge and the will to help him and who's instead only taking the mickey out of him... well.... it's his problem! Just wonder what will happen to my staff.... if they're lucky they'll handle them with kid gloves... just to demonstrate "I was the mor*n", but I have some doubts they'll be so smart Me? Uh... no... I feel light... in these months the situation was getting more and more heavy... I'll miss my job because I liked it... and I liked the way you feel "God-like" when you can do a great job with few people, few money and no time at all... but I think it's definitely their loss... Well... of course, unless I have a nervous breakdown later.... for now I feel free... Ok guys, a song for all of you... that's how I feel Edited August 24, 2010 by Yuri

peebeep
I jumped ship a while ago after I got sidelined for being correct in assessing that there was a major flaw in the project that I was working on. I was told that it was not my problem and that everything was OK. It wasn't. The company then hired a consultant who arrived at the same conclusion as I had myself some months previously and recommended the same solution that I had already suggested was the only possible fix. Did I get any apology? Hell no, I had upstaged a senior architect, bad mistake. I got dumped on big time with every crap job going. In my experience competence and management are diametrically opposed - with apologies to any mangers here who are actually competent! peebeep

Oroka
I recently went though something similar, but I quit before I did something stupid and got fired. A bad job is not worth the stress. Edited August 24, 2010 by Oroka

RedHeadKevin
In Massachusetts, for teachers, there's a little thing called "Professional Teacher Status." It used to be called "tenure." In Mass. State Law, it says that you get PTS on "the first day of your fourth complete, consecutive, certified year in a district." Until then, a school can let a teacher go for any, or no, reason, and they fight hard to tell you "I won't say why we're letting you go." After your 3rd year, you practically have to pull a gun on a kid to get fired. Well, I've worked for 9 years as a teacher, got my Masters', and was let-go-for-no-reason 3 times. So now, I'm experienced, licensed, high on the pay scale, and looking for a job. WHEEEEE!

And rest assured, if you run your own business, your customers will be the toughest bosses you ever worked for.
JeskiM
Oh, yes, you can, when your customers go elsewhere. And rest assured, if you run your own business, your customers will be the toughest bosses you ever worked for. I'll second that. I started up a sofware company this past year. And it's for sure the hardest I have ever worked in my life. The customers drive me harder than any previous boss that I've had and the work hours are long. I haven't seen less than 60-70 hours in the last ..... well longer than I care to remember. Yes the rewards are nice too, when you have time/energy to enjoy them. That explains why my model building and participation here has been very limited in the last few months. Now I would NOT recommend starting your own business for everyone. But to me it is still worth it. And if you don't mind hard work and tough customers and feel you can toe the line with them....then go for it. Personally I didn't know I had it in me...until one night when the customer was coming down on me and it was 2 AM and I wanted to tell them where to go....so I decided on a course of action..... I went to bed! I got up at 4 AM when no one could bother me and pulled off a near miracle (as far as I was concerned).....results of that hard work and the days/night s after that.....one really happy and spoiled customer ! Just my 2 cents. - Matt
tornado64
Oh, yes, you can, when your customers go elsewhere. And rest assured, if you run your own business, your customers will be the toughest bosses you ever worked for. deffo !! if you think working for others is hard , work for yourself , you need self motivation , a partial degree in accountancy , facing customers one to one ( even the *** holes !! ) you'll get more of them than good having to chase your payments ( the biggest percent of scrotes you work for will avoid or delay payments ) i am reluctant to work for the british now unless i get the materials and some labour paid up front i have lost count of how much i'm owed through scrotes dodging payment !! i'll be glad to get back to drawing a wage and letting someone else get done over !! tornado64
Huh? most of that is only understandable for us brits a typical case in point !! when i first left school i worked for british railways out of all the staff with hundreds of years experience between them they employed someone who had passed an irrelevant subject at university because she had fantastic qualiffications typical of british recruitment !! when push came to shove she was worse than useless at her job and no one would help her i used to be in charge of a garage and vehicle hire business we had a lad from college that was fantastic and the bees knees on paper but it took him all night to change a wheel when i went to look why he was trying to remove truck wheelnuts with an adjustable spanner yet a young lad that probably had trouble spelling his name could be left to tackle the most technical jobs on his own !! Recon
I got let go with 17 years experience only because the amount of profit that the company made wasn't enough (by the why the profit was a record). Mike
Jinxter13
Yuri....with that much experience, I doubt it will be long before someone else in that line of business will come knocking with an offer...it may not be at the rate you were, nevertheless it will be an offer....I'll be pulling for ya with the force of 20g's. let's see a fighter do that!!! and keep flying . pbcheez
stupid people these days. in my situation it's the people with degrees that are mor*ns and the people with little more than highschool that have common sense at least.
TaiidanTomcat
The only positive thing I can say is at least its happened, A lot of people will go crazy before being fired or quitting. Everyone should be fired once and everyone should quit once. I have known people that had neither happen to them and they were always getting shoved around by bosses because the bosses knew they could. I think its all for the best though from what you have said in your first post "no one ever got fired from a job they wanted to keep"
Mike C
most of that is only understandable for us brits Not necessarily.... Aussies do too. Or perhaps I understood what you were saying because I've been working with so many Brits down here...?! :P
DDC
Yep Tornado- got ya loud and clear. Pbcheez - spot on. Just because you've come out of university with a piece of paper doesn't mean jack sh*t in the real world. They're fine if you want to spend your life working in an office, but otherwise useless. All the friends i went to school with were academically smart, but as soon as it came to real world problems, they were useless. Most cant even do the above changing of a car tyre. useless. Did you know you now need a uni degree even to work in a library? My message is, If you're at uni or have been, tip top for you, but dont come out of there thinking you're the be all end all because you've got some paper to your name. Sorry Yuri, rant over. You've got the experience, and obviously know how to use it. Youll get to where you need to be, and im sure it'll be a 1000 times better! Good luck mate. rm20886
Sorry to hear this Yuri, In this economy I think a lot of employers are looking for any reason to let people go. Why, to make the bottom line look better. I am sure something will come along for you. Nothing like a new fresh start to ignite your spirit.
richter111
I hope the best for you. I was out of work for 16 months, sent out countless resumes, interviews, job aps, everything Now I am employed full time, and have another interview with a even better organization, for substantially more pay this Friday. Hang in there, things can and do get better
Superjew
I almost got fired today for being a heterosexual male who completely f'n sucks at meeting women, who still attempted to talk with them. Maybe I should chop my balls off so I wont have a drive to meet them anymore. that's a whole new can of worms !!! let them know from day one you're taking no s**t my first line is usualy something sexist with humour , i am after all an equal oppertunities pi** taker !! my last one was in an office i st ood up and walked through a small gap between some chairs , as going through i caught one of my knacke*s between my leg and the chairs backrest whilst wailling in pain the offices Meg Griffin decided to join in , the diologue went like this me " jeez that hurt !" her "what? " me " i trapped one of my n**s !" her " don't be so soft , it can't be that bad !" me " your kidding it's like giving birth !!" her " how on earth would you know !! have you given birth ?" me " no , but to be fair have you trapped one of your k*ackers !!" or a fantastic one is to walk into the office and announce " great t*ts !" and follow it shortly after with " on my bird feeder this morning !!" the reaction in todays pollitacaly correct world is the whole office like well apart from one girl that giggled and said " he he , thaught theyed fell out again !" i realy liked her she had a superb attitude !! or an exchance between two ex bosses ( both verry good at thier jobs ) one was a very atractive male and one a very atractive female but they had superb working banter together they had to they had to sell plant hire equipment round building sites ( a job both did equaly as well ) anyway one day i had had an accident and trapped my fingers the woman was the companys first aider so she was patching me up when he walked in " what's up !" he said " crushed my fingers !" i said " bloody hell !" he said " but don't worry you're in good hands , she's ever so gentle and does a fantastic job !" there was a pause and then he delivered the killer line " i'm thinking of trapping my c*ck in the door !!" god the laughs we had at that place , how much things have changed in a few short years now you're lucky if you work somewhere you talk to each other !!
