fulcrum
Sweet! I want to see more in-progress shots. I am not a MiG-21 expert so what's the visible differences between single and twin seater engine nozzles? I have same Ze Ro decals and I will try to adapt them for a future checkered MiG-21UMD in Cro markings "Kockica" Cheers
Mr_Spock
Sweet! I want to see more in-progress shots. I am not a MiG-21 expert so what's the visible differences between single and twin seater engine nozzles? I have same Ze Ro decals and I will try to adapt them for a future checkered MiG-21UMD in Cro markings "Kockica" Cheers There is no major differences between bis and UM engine nozzles, but there are significant differences between engines. The bis has R25-300 engine and UM (twin seater) has older R13-300 engine. This R13-300 engine with its derivatives was used also in MF, MT, SMT, ST, MT single seat Mig-21 models. This is inside bis engine nozzle: And this is inside UM engine nozzle (note the difference in flame holders, on bis they are round and on UM they are star like): I tried to recreate this with my models: bis: UM: It is difficult to take picture inside nozzle but I hope you can see the difference... Mr_Spock
Small update... Some of things I did before and did not post: For bisD version I had to fill some of the panel lines and engrave new ones on vertical stabilizer: For UMD version left side of the vertical stabilizer is ok but I had to fill right side like on bis: Also there are panel lines on both wings that are of MF version and do not exist on bisD and UMD: Trumpeter did totally wrong side panel line that had to be filled and engraved: Also I cut and started to widen spine since bisD has wider spine than MF, there are still lots of work on it:
Mr_Spock
And some of the new things I did, I begun to detail main and front wheel struts, I made some hydraulic pipes and now follows painting and weathering: Also I painted air intakes and yellow stripes inside: These are the real images of these stripes, I do not know what they are for... That's it for now...thanks for watching...
Rodrigo Mazzoleni
These yellow tripes can be a type of seam paint I think... anyone with more data?
Mr_Spock
Hi... I found some free time to work on my models. Here are the pictures of my progress... Nose cones painted gloss green: I'm making new air scoops on aircraft tail since Trumpeter made totally wrong ones: Also I added small antennas on both sides of vertical tail that are distinctive for Croatian bisD and UMD (also can be found on Romanian Lancers): I made some small parts on wings, I'm not sure what are they for: And I finished painting and weathering wheels. Painted with lite ghost gray, after gloss coat I did wash with raw umber oil color, and finally dry brush with silver... That is it for now, I'm sorry for bad pictures quality, they were taken under neon lights...thanks for watching

Newf36
Ya know what's wrong with this build so far? Not a blasted thing! I'll echo others who have praised your attention to detail, and your exemplary weathering skills, Mr. Spock. I'll be watching this build closely. Keep up the great work, and keep those pictures coming. Good Show!

Mr_Spock
Hello! Here is small update... Since I broke nosecone tip I had to make new one. I used metal tip and CA glue: Now it looks like this. I cut part of the original Trumpeters nosecone and fixed it to my nosecone so I can fix it inside air intake. Just a dryfit. It looks much better than Trumpeters nosecone: Finished small air scoops:
Mr_Spock
Added piping on hydraulic actuators: I started to work on wheel bay doors, right ones are for bisD, left for UMD: Thanks for watching...

These antennas were installed at the overhaul in Romania: I painted and washed hydraulic actuators and main wheel bay hatches: Made a few details on wing pylons:
Mr_Spock
I had to correct the shape of the avionics bay hatch to get correct one: First I cut the incorrect piece: Then I glued this piece upside down, filled and sanded: That's it for today...

Mr_Spock
Hello... Finally I had some time to work on Migs. Two-seater put together got wings but still need some work: Single-seater also put together and I started to modify the spine to look like bis. I used sprue and dissolved it in thinner then used it as putty. Now follows sanding and puttying and fixing the shape of spine. Nosecone in place: Edited July 26, 2012 by Mr_Spock
Mr_Spock
Finished spine on bis. I'm not fully satisfied with the shape but It will have to do. I also engaved panel lines that have been lost in sanding and glued some etched parts: I made RATO boosters holders. Croatian Migs have retained them although they did not use boosters: Edited July 26, 2012 by Mr_Spock
Mr_Spock
I had to modify spine-tail joint on two-seater becuse it was wrong shape: Auxiliary pitot tubes made from scratch using hypodermic needles: Detailed radio altimeters: Antennae that goes below the hull: Edited July 25, 2012 by Mr_Spock
