rc.amsterdam
But wasn't the Lindberg kit 'box scale' whereas the Revell kit was 1/72 which is what Steve thought? - "first 1/72 injection-molded B-17 kit" I vaguely remember the Lindberg kit, but as box scale, as were many kits at the time. Indeed, the Lindberg kit was box scale.
caudleryan
Help moderating... anyone? I would volunteer but I'm afraid I don't know jack sh!t about the B-17. If it does get the go ahead, I'm in for a rebuild. RYAN.
Lawn Dart
I'd be in for a rebuild as well. I've got a B-17G that I've got half stripped down that I'd love to do as either a RAF machine or as one of the wrecks in the area.

Kostucha
These are just perfect. Thanks for sharing. I'm curious, if anyone has the opportunity, can they take some shots of the control cables in the waist section and follow their path aft of the waist gunners positions? Cheers, Mark. Vulgar Vulture
December or January start? Count me in! I'm just getting back into the hobby after many years off and after two quick builds I see my painting and masking skills are well, how shall we say, lacking? :D The pressure and fun of a group build should sharpen those skills considerably. I have the 1/48 Monogram kit on standby. Will be built stock with no aftermarket goodies although I've been fooling with the idea of motorizing it. Maybe put one of the turrets on a rheostat switch for activation, batteries in the bomb bay? We'll see I guess. Stock decals unless I find something more interesting. Looking forward to it! Bonehammer73
That would be just the motivation I need to proceed with my Soviet B-17. I'm business trips all over the place this autumn, so a Dec/Jan start would be better.
Kostucha
A SOVIET B-17! AWESOME!!! Will you be representing their use as a Bomber or a VIP transport? Either way, it'll look great I'm sure! What's better for everyone? January 1 or December 1? Cheers, Mark.
rightwinger26
If we HAVE to wait lets start Jan 1, December is always hectic with Christmas and all, I know I for one will be out of town for at least two weeks
Kostucha
That's a lot of good sense you made there. January 1 is making a lot of sense.
rightwinger26
Or January 2, the first can tend to be a long headache filled day
100th BG
By the way, anybody looking for B-17 decals might want to check out a company called Kitsworld decals. They have many B-17 decals in 72nd and 48th. I got a set and they look good with excellent registration. And service is fantastic: I ordered mine on a Monday and had them that Friday. Since they are in England and I am in Central Illinois, I think that is pretty amazing.
rightwinger26
thanks for the tip, I'll have to check that out, see if I can build something that isnt the norm
Bonehammer73
A SOVIET B-17! AWESOME!!! Will you be representing their use as a Bomber or a VIP transport? Either way, it'll look great I'm sure! Bomber, specifically 44-6316 which served with the 45 TBAD, with the remains of the unit markings.
Kostucha
Oh, that'll be sweet! Can't wait to see it. January 2nd it is!

Ham
I'm in! I have both an Academy B-17B and a -D in the stash, so I'll build a shark-tail Fortress. I'm going to do this beauty. B-17B, March Field, California circa 1940. The unit marking on the nose is for the 32nd Bombardment Squardon. I will try and make the squadron patch marking from a scan and shrink it down. As this is a pre-war aircraft (at least for us Yanks) I'm going do her in spotless finish as shown in this very rare color photo. No battle damage or weathering here. rightwinger26
I really wish someone would release a YB-17, that would be a really interesting subject for us prop guys
Stefan buysse
Hi, The buzz around the new Revell B-17G has rekindled my interest in the B-17: I'm in. I'll build a B-17 in 1/72, nothing too special, just an (old Revell) F or a (Hasegawa) G, maybe with kits-world decals. Cheers, Stefan.
Kostucha
Oh boy oh boy! This GB is really going to be fun. This is one aircraft that, given it's humble beginnings way back with the model 299, all the way to today, how many countries used them, different paint schemes, different mods, different... lots!! Oh, the possibilities... Cheers! Mark.
