IrishGreek
Hi all, Just a question. I have been playing around with this little Voodoo kit, which isn't a 'great' kit according to what most of us seem to think nowadays. But I must admit, it has been a stress reliever, because I have no preconceptions. I actually expected this old matchbox kit to be a stinker (fit, detail, etc), but since I have no giant goals for the kit, it has been fun so far. Do any of you pull something out of your stash, or buy something like this from the LHS, just for the same reason as I described above? John
Els
This was the reason I started buying the Hasegawa Egg Planes. Usually after a couple of long builds I start to get a little tired of building kits so I will build an Egg Plane. There isn't much to them so they are quick and easy to build. It's a nice stress reliever and it keeps me from getting burned out.

I haven't set up any huge expectations about this kit, I just am glueing parts together, puttying gaps, but that is it. If it doesnt have an engine face, so what. Only working with the stuff in the box and seeing what it looks like at the end. Just like when I was a kid. Okay, maybe the putty is more than I would do then! Jay Chladek
I've done a couple things like that. A low parts count also helps as it speeds the build along. I recently pulled out a couple 1/72 F-5 kits out of storage as I plan to do something quick and dirty with them. They aren't great as one is an Idea kit and the other is a Starfix F-5B (shocking, but this one seems to be a Hasegawa based copy and looks potentially buildable). Given their size and low parts count, I think they might make a nice diversion from my current big project for a quickie three day build.
Julien (UK)
I built this very kit for that reason last year, plus I wanted to test some new paints and did not want to on an expensive kit. I was pretty pleased with the results; Looks like a voodoo to me Build was fairly easy as well. Julien Edited September 6, 2010 by Julien (UK)
Kevan Vogler
That's usually why I snoop around my LHS's consignment section regularly. Lots of old Matchbox, Frog and Airfix stuff can be found there at times at next to nothing prices. AIrfix's old 1/72 F-86D Sabre is one of my favorite stress busting builds. Not a clue or a care if she's accurate in any way, but she comes together vicelessly. Plus, as cheap as she is to obtain, there's no guilt related to handing her off to a kid to play with and maybe bust up. I've lost count of how many times I built that kit, I've never even kept one of the built up ones. Handed them off to some kid to "Fly" around, even handed a few off as game pieces to a former buddy who was really into role playing games. tornado64
sometimes we put too much emphasis on fantastic detail , fit etc and leave behind the fun matchbox were superb kits and a superb fit and when they were originaly released they were superb detail wise !! sometimes we forget that even the youngest matchbox kits are heading towards 30 yrs old
madmike
Well I do enjoy Matchbox aircraft and their armour kits. A more modern alternative to consider are the HobbyBoss easykits. Very cheap, nicely detailed (except cockpit) and very quick to build.

Julien Julien, Thats a nice looking bird. Even for a 'simple' kit. I am thinking I'll do mine in Canadian markings though. John
Oroka
That is why I like doing Hobbycraft kits sometimes. Smack it together, if I dont feel like putting too much detail into it, big woop, $10. If I do feel like putting some effort into it, there is ALOT of opportunity to make it look good. I love detailing cockpits that have no details in it. Last one I did was a MiG-29... spent 2 days on the cockpit, got it glued in, mashed the rest of the kit together, gave it to my 3 year old son. I glue parts back on every other week. Edited September 6, 2010 by Oroka
theplasticsurgeon
As with Julien - I thought it scrubbed up quite nicely:
