Els
Last March I attended the Tico airshow and snapped some pictures of the aircraft on display there. I was wondering if anyone knew if decals (1:48) were ever made for this F-105 (Ye old War horse) that is on display at the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum? I didn't think much of the aircraft when I was taking these pictures. Today I was looking for some other pictures and these cought my eye. I think this would be quite a painting challenge to pull off and I would like to give it a try. I don't know anything about the plane and the museum's website only has a picture of the aircraft. I was going to email and ask about it but if no one here has any info it will give me a good excuse to drive out to the museum and have a look around. Thanks Els Museum picture: Some close ups that I took:
Els
I forgot to put in the first post that I did a google search and Wikipedia states that the aircraft is an F-105D, 60-0492. Els
yardbird78
Great pictures of one of my favorite planes. Yeah, that paint job would be a real challenge to duplicate. Dariwn
viper50
I found a pic of the art in the book Painted Ladies by Randy Walker. The caption reads; "YE OLD WAR HORSE was F-105D [60-0492] which last serverd with the 192nd TFG Virginia ANG. The yellow band with the black lightning bolt was also carried on the tails of the Viginia aircraft." I looked through all the usual places for decals and came up empty. You might try to find some info through the Virginia ANG, sometimes they have some history in their archives. Painting that would certanly be a challenge, but would look awesome when finished. Don M. Jozef
I know that there was a Superscale sheet with VA NG F-105s. I am not sure whether this particular bird was on it but there were few really nice schemes. Best Jozef
Jinxter13
Though I didn't see a sheet with that aircraft on it try the List of Thud Decal Sheets it may be worth a look. HTH Edited September 23, 2010 by Angels49
thegoodsgt
The sheet in question is 48-275, but it does not contain markings for that aircraft.
louie
there are no decals for this bird. A lot of reference pictuces for all of the Virginia ang have been sent to two different decal companies. one is out of business the other hasn't done anything with them. maybe they will do them :) cheers bob
Els
All, Thanks for taking the time to help me out. The ARC is such a great resource to have at your finger tips. This is the first forum that I have ever been a part of and for me it is so cool that I can post a picture of a kit I completed or ask a question and get respones from all around the world in a manner of minutes/hours. Angels49, I wish you hadn't added that list of F-105 decals. I saw a few that I will have to track down and buy. Since there are so few markings and the ones that are there are so degraded, I might be able to get away with making some on my computer. Those mixed with some extra 105 decals from other sheets might be enough to work with. Even if I don't do the kit, at least I got a good reason to drive out to the museum this weekend and look around. Els
