C-130CrewChief
I don't know if we have a central topic for Aerospace Ground Equipment but, I figure I'll start one any way. I'll start it off with two pieces seen around our flightline often. This is a standard USAF powerunit. We call it a -86, Hobart, or simply a Power Unit. This is a self generating nitrogen cart. It is used for servicing tires, accumulators or any other item that needs compressed nitrogen; it produces 1 to 4000 PSI of 99% pure nitrogen. It's commonly called a Nit (sounds like night) Cart or SGNS (pronounced like Cygnus) I hope to post more in the near future. Now, show me what you're working with! HOLMES
Curt these pics are just great to see. They will be useful for those doing Dioramas ... Thanx HOLMES :)
C-130CrewChief
I hope to get some more of the other equipment we use soon. I just have to not apear to be slacking off at work..... My supervisor builds models though... He understands the addiction!
UKPonchoMan
Keep 'em coming - it's really hard to get people to post pics of non-aircraft USAF subjects! Now if you can take some pics of the hangars too - that would be even better (yes, a completely mad project to try and build a USAF maintenance hangar in 1/72!!) You are nuts! That's quite a project! I can't wait to see your hangar!!! However, I don't think it would be a good idea for me to post pics of our hangar as much as I support your venture. I have already been warned by a person from my unit through a PM on here about making sure I keep OPSEC etc in mind... That was a surprise!! I haven't broken OPSEC so far, but I think detail pics of our hangar would be pushing it a bit. I would be glad to get some more equipment pics though!!! Curt
C-130CrewChief
Okay, here's part Three... If someone scratch builds this I'll buy you a beer! This is a B-5 stand. A very common maintenance stand. Alright party people... Enjoy! Curt

UKPonchoMan
I'll pony up a few - if someone can identify them it would be much appreciated! All taken at the RAF Waddington airshow this year...

C-130CrewChief
The first one is a ground air conditioning unit. I'm not sure what the second one is. It looks like some sort of power unit. The third one is Angels49's beloved -60. It provides bleed air and power. The -86 did not replace the -60. The -95 replaced it. All three were in service at the same time for a long time. I don't know why the -60 went away... Maybe parts, or it was redundant.... I'll ask the AGE guys, maybe they know. My next post will include a new style H-1 ground heater and a -95! Curt

bdt13
Time to bump this thread. Here is perhaps one of the most basic pieces of ground equipment, the wheel chock. Basic yellow used with an F-15C: Yellow with decal with a B-52H: More complex for a T-38C:
bdt13
More traditional... Light cart at Pittsburgh IAP: Lav service cart and KC-135 or C-130 work stands at Niagara Falls, NY: The stand is named "Louie." Is there a "Huey" or Dewie?" Also, note the message in the 2nd pic - "Caution do not disturb working elves." Are they taking in maintenance for a sleigh? Boarding stairs used on an F-16, also at Niagara Falls. bdt13
Maintenance hangar at the 911 AW, Pittsburgh IAP. Allison T56 on a stand. I figure the stand counts for this thread. C-130 Radar. The stand doesn't like you'd use it on the ramp, but it is on the ground! Every show they have a big display in the hangar, with maintenance equipment, test boxes for electronics, safety equipment, etc.
bdt13
Miscellaneous. From Pittsburgh unless noted: Weapons trailer: Fire trucks: How do you move a helo on skids? With a trailer: Taken Niagara Falls, NY Instant control tower:

Von_L
What is the nomenclature for this cart, next to a B-52G at Loring AFB, c.1989-? It looks like the dash-86 HOBART shown above, but I'm not sure. Also: Is this the cart that would have been hooked up to these jets on alert? If not this one, would a Dash-60 do, instead? That is a -86. I have no idea what would be hooked up on alert, but you can use a -60 instead of a -86. They both do the same thing....mostly... Curt
