dkobayashi
My late uncle was a big modeller..and phantom phanatic. He built over 100. Anyway, he passed in 1996, when I was much younger, and left me one of these kits- this is what started my modelling craze: I didn't build it great or anything, and the model is long gone in the trash, but for some reason, I still have the box. And what a better kit to build an impression with than the Fujimi 1/72 british phantoms. I now have quite a few of these ones in the stash.. David
ByronLeal
I have been "modeling" for a while; you know, puting them together (no putty, no sanding, no engraving, no nothing and no specific scale) and placing the decals on the bare plastic, I still remember a 1/32 Revell F-104, 5 hours from start to finish. But then I met some old guys that have this association and I join them. after a while, maybe 6 months, my first "real" model was finished; a 1/48 Italeri RF-4 with bicentenial markings, Boy!! did it look beautiful!! well, to keep it short, I was hook on Scale modeling, the 1/48 scale and adobe all, the Phantom . Up to this day. Keep on modeling Byron P.D.: If someone have this decals and not going to use them, PM me Edited October 23, 2010 by ByronLeal
theplasticsurgeon
Mine was this Airfix: I refurbished it for the SMW2008 display of 500 Phantoms to OLDS01: And although not an obsession - there are 11 completed Phantoms in my collection, with none remaining in the stash. Phantom ordie
My first Phantom was in 1963 when I was in VF-31. We transitioned from the F3H Demon to the F4B.Worked on them for 12 years and was an instructor on the Ordnance gear for 2 years.
tsculton
My first serious attempt at a Phantom was at about 15 when I built Fujimi's 1/72 F-4E with the Missouri ANG "30 Years of Phabulous Phantoms" markings in it. Me too, i live near the real jet as it stands gate guard at Lambert IAP, I had to build it!
tsculton
This IS NOT, my first Phantom, I have no idea what my first one was as I have been building these things for near 40 years. BUT!!!!! the 1988 London airshow with 28 phantoms on static display went a long way to helping with my love of this aircraft. What other airplane has been used by as many different countries, in SO many versions for so long?F-4B,C,D,E,F,G.........etc!!!! No comparison to any thing else! What other MODEL could I have built 129 times and still have 40 in the stash? A man after my own heart! If I only had the room!
torchf4
Hasegawa's 1/48 F-4C/D in the Hawaii ANG SEA camo boxing with options for 66-7463 as a birthday present when I was 9 or 10. It was Koike's box art and those red stars on the splitter that got me hooked in the first place!
Jennings
I'm pretty sure I was "dephlowered" by the IMC battle damage RF-4B as well It may possibly have been a Revell 1/72 kit, I really don't remember. I do remember my uncle, who was in the USAF at the time, thinking it was cool that I liked the "Phantom Deuce" as he called it. :) J
xv107
Airfix for me. Painted in a nice gloss gull grey (good) and er.... red camo pattern (with white undersides), and armed with two of Airfix's ludicrously over-long SUU-23 pods, six bombs and er... two ummmm.... well, I suppose you'd call them conformal fuel tanks, which, if memory served (a) were mounted on the wing folds and ( mounted an AIM-7 each. I was five... I rather think that this 'F-4J' had the wrong burner cans too Second Phantom - Airfix, bought exactly one week after the first Phantom (which, as you probably guessed, took about an hour to throw together...), another VF-31 airframe, but this time the little-known F-4J variant with the internal M61. Painted in RAF camouflage (well, not quite - it was gloss brown and dark green). In my defence, I was six, and it was bought with some of my birthday money.... But that was enough to get me interested in the F-4 Edited October 24, 2010 by xv107
Archangel
I think the first one was either the Revell 1/72nd scale F-4C or the Airfix F-4C/D/E/J kit. Then the Revell Blue Angels display team kit with 4 blue F-4's Then the old Hasagawa F-4J kit came later on and their F-04E which to me at the time was the best one out there . It had all kinds of ordanance to hang off of its wings. AIM-9's AIM 7;s, 750 MK 117's more then any other kit at the time I think. Then The Tamaiya 1/100th scale F-4E and their F-4K/M and many more after that.
Daryl J.
Aurora's 1/48 ''Phantom'' from the Young Model Builder's Club. I wish I had that kit today.
ikar
It was a combination of watching them on the news every night during the war and getting the very early Revell F-4 cammoflaged kit and the IMC kit. I'm just not exactly sure which I got first but I'm pretty sure it was the Revell. I got a much better look at them a couple years later during the war.
PNW_Modeler
Classic Monogram in the old Showtime 100 boxing.....my scout master was a big modeler and he gave it to me. Built it in a night, painted it by hand....was so into it, I ran to the hobby shop the next morning and bought two more. the Black Bunny and the C/D. Love those old Monogram Phantoms. I also built the Revell 32nd RF-4B and F-4J when I was a kid.
NECSAC
Hi friends As a Phantom Phanatic I can tell you that my first Phantom was the Revell 1/72 F-4 B, of VF-102 Diamondbacks, here the pics of the box art (I still keep it) and the kit, I built around 1978. In our local club IPMS-Chile we are "Phantommaniacs" too, check this link Gallery of Phantoms and we are always seeing the "Phantom line-up" of Shawn "Phantom" Weiler Regards NECSAC
big fatty
Mine was the ENTEX F-4 kit, think it was 1/48.
swedeinsiam
My first Phantom was a Revell/Monogram 1/48 F-4D which was the second plane I built after I started modeling again 1.5 year ago after been away for over 20 years. I did this one because it was cheap and good for practice building techniques, added resin seats, decals and some scratch building. I dreamed about building Phantoms when I was young but could never find any in the LHS in Sweden :) . I'm sure this will NOT be the last one for me. :)
Gene K
For me it was the very early Monogram 1/72 kit (from the 1970s). Here's a link to a couple of reincarnations of that venerable kit: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....75&hl=Koike Gene K
Jennings
Love those old Monogram Phantoms. I'd consider those *newer* kits! The Revell and IMC battle damage kits were already ancient by the time Monogram's kits came out in 1979 (when I was a senior in high school - so by definition that cant' be "old") :) J

Jennings
For me it was the very early Monogram 1/72 kit (from the 1970s). Monogram's 1/72 kits are from the mid-1980s. The first Phantom Monogram did was the 1/48 F-4C/D which came out in 1979. The 1/72 version was several years later. J

If you would like to see how it look like, VMFP-3 I do not know why some of the manufacturers did not think it may sell, event though is not bicentenial time. it will sell good because it is beautiful, and Hasegawa has release some RF-4's Byron
Spruemeister
Mine was the Revell 1/32 F-4J from about 1972. That box art with the Sparrow launch from a VF-33 MiG killer is in my top 5 all time. Just couldn't resist. The box fit a whole lot better than the kit. ever did. Rick L.
bdt13
First F-4 kit i owned was the 1/32 Revell F-4J, given to me when I was 6 or so. A bit inappropriate in size for a tot my age, my parents thought, so it was embargoed for a couple of years. First one I built was either the 1/72 Snap-Tite F-4E or the 1/72 Airfix multi-version kit (built as an Israeli F-4E with wing cannon pods in one day. Even painted it! Can't do one in a month now.). Can't remember which came first; this was back in '79 or so when I churned out 2-3 a month. I grimace when I think of the quality of the builds, but then I remember the fun. After all, that's what it was all about! Later came Matchbox (1/72 FGR.2), Monogram (1/48 F-4D), and Esci/Ertl/AMT (1/72 F-4S). Only have the Hasegawa 1/72 F-4E (NJ ANG) in the stash now. Phantom IIs are nice, but as a child of the '70's, it was always the teen jets that stole my heart. The 4's just seemed old-fashioned by comparison.
BMH
1st for me was the ancient Aurora F-4J in Blue Angels markings when I was in the 6th grade in 1973, and the 1st one I painted was the Revell 1/32 F-4J in Showtime 100 when I was in the 9th grade. White spray bomb for the bottom and Testor's square bottle for the gray, black and metallic gray. That one came out well enough that I would actually show it to people (after my dad was impressed enough to take off his glasses and look at it closely). Window frames were a bear, but even they came out pretty good. No going on the web to find out all its faults--it looked like a Phantom and it was BIG, and Dad liked it, so the effort was worth it! Have a bunch of Revell MiG Killers & RF-4Cs waiting to get started and/or finished and one each of the Tamiya C/D and J plus resin, TwoBobs, CAM, CE and Superscale and much better paints and an airbrush. Just wish Dad was still around to inspect them when I'm finished.
muswp1
Monogram's Snap-Tite 1/72 F-4E was my first Phantom and my first model period.
