Els
This is the Pegasus Hobbies UFO kit. The box says it is 1:32 scale but since it is an alien, it can be any scale you want. There are 2 complete kits in the box, but I only built one. I am saving the other for silly week. They are very easy to build. It only took me a couple hours to complete this. These are a great stress relief, sort of the egg plane of Sci Fi. It is hard to take good pictures because the big clear dome reflects all light sources. The kits are pretty cool and they have an excellent little alien pilot. There is a a bit of a cockpit and you can pose the alien to reach the controls. I wanted to light the whole thing but my ambitions were greater than my electronics knowledge. I settled for having a light in the cockpit and just painting the clear round spots around the ship with clear blue. To light the cockpit I found that a small battery operated LED tea light fit on the bottom well enough to look like part of the ship. It works great because the battery is installed in the unit. This light is pretty bright and it has the cool flicker. Thanks for looking and let me know what you think. Els
Boxster
Nice job! I got this kit and decided to order another box. I love this kit, simple and nice and many possibilities for diorama and I love the Xbox game called Kill All Humans and I thought I like to make a dio of these invaders on a farm..., something like that. Not soon, but someday! Good job on the lighting and the paintings! B
Els
Thanks Boxster, I might end up buying another box myself. I was thinking about building a couple of them painted up like air racers. I have not seen the game Kill all Humans, but is there a part in there where the aliens kill/capture a cow or something? I have seen two of these kits built up with a cow and I was wondering about the connection. When you build your diorama post some pictures, I would like to see it. SBARC
This UFO kit looks like alot of fun.....I've never heard of this UFO kit before. I do like the way it lights up for effect.
Boxster
Hi Els, Yes, its from the old Xbox game and there are cows in it. LOL Racers? Sounds good, sir! Please post when you finish them. I won't build mine for sometimes to come tho. Have way too many kits already in line. Shucks! I thought this kit was a good alternative to the usual stuff and it is! I also think Pegasus is a company to look at for good kits in time to come! B
kenlilly106
I like the flickering tea light idea, never would have thought of that one, gotta love cheap LED's. It is a very nice kit, I plan to do one of mine as the alien one and convert the other one to 'Spaceman Spiff's' ride from 'Calvin&Hobbes' Ken
GEH737
I've got a similar lighting idea for mine (holiday light set) - and I really enjoyed your imaginative use of the "tea light" Hitch
GreyGhost
Great job Els ! Love the look and feel you gave this one ... Man, you've been on a roll lately ... Gregg
TonyT
No wonder his eyes are bulging with that shoved up under his bottom........... Love it.................. the model, I mean not the tea light placement B) Had seen them on sale and was thinking about getting one. Seeing it built I think I will :D Edited November 18, 2010 by TonyT
Els
Thanks for all the positive comments. I am going to try and post some of your comments in here, hopefully it will work. It is a very nice kit, I plan to do one of mine as the alien one and convert the other one to 'Spaceman Spiff's' ride from 'Calvin&Hobbes' Ken, it would be perfect for that, I would like to see it. Man, you've been on a roll lately ... GreyGhost. That is the only up side to not being able to find a job. I have built more models so far this year than I have in the past 5 years. At the moment I have an AT AT walker that I am modifying to look like a picture I saw on the web that is about 50% complete and another UFO that I am building in a diorama for silly week. That is also about 50% complete. I also recently finished an A-7 but have not posted pictures of that. Maybe I should be spending a little more time looking for the job??? Had seen them on sale and was thinking about getting one. Seeing it built I think I will Tony T. I recommend it. They are easy to build, and your imagination is the only limit to what you can make out of them. They are also fairly cheap so they don't break the bank. As a side note, the tea light would not fit with the plastic flame. I will just leave it at that... I chopped off the plastic flame and inside was the smallest LED that I have ever seen. So, if you need a source of small LED's... Thanks for looking Els Edited November 19, 2010 by Els
Prince of Styrene II
Els, you did an excellent job on the UFO! I love the panel shading on the hull & the colors onthe alien. Well done, sir! It is a very nice kit, I plan to do one of mine as the alien one and convert the other one to 'Spaceman Spiff's' ride from 'Calvin&Hobbes' I hate to burst a bubble, but I have to say it is a fun conversion. My friend Boxster pointed me to this thread as he knew I had done this & posted it on Starship Modeler (my usual haunt). For my idea, I decided to do just a bit more than build Spiff's ship with a landscape. I poured through my comics deciding what to do when it dawned on me- the thing that makes Spiff great (& by extension Calvin himself) is the fun of reading the whole strip & getting the laugh at the end. So I decided to make a whole strip... in 3-D! But which strip? I narrowed it down to five, then chose this one: The long & short of it is that I decided to start from the last panel & move backward, plus this would give me the chance to build Spiff's ship right away! It's a great strip for the variety of stuff it has that will be built- Spiff's ship, landscape, the flying lizard, his Mom & the Mom-bug. I built a box out of basswood, lined the back with felt, made the moon out of a stryofoam ball covered in plaster & mounted it & Spiff's ship with rods out of the back. Spiff himself was sculpted out of Sculpy & I modified the cockpit to look more like his, most noticably making the twin oxygen tanks (at least that's what I think they are). The speech bubble was made by vacforming a sheet of plastic to get an actual bubble & the words are printed on a clear sheet. When all is said & done, I plan on mounting the panel boxes seperating them with short lengths of dowl rod, then taking a large piece of foam core poster board with holes cut into it so the panels will sit inside the holes. When it's done & you're looking at it, it should look like a large comic page but just with the panels being recessed shadow boxes. In-progress pics My whole album can be seen here: http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff5/Pri...;cpZZ1QQtppZZ28 Thoughts & comments are welcome! Enjoy! Els
Prince of Styrene II, Thanks for your comments. Your project is really cool. I am glad that you decided to post some pictures of it here. You really did pick a strip with a lot of different elements. That is good, it will keep you from getting bored of sculpting the same thing over and over. I like your idea of making the panels in seperate boxes. It will look great when it all comes together. You must have a good amount of display space. Your sculpting of Spiff and modifications to the UFO are excellent, it matches up with the art very well. That will look awsome when it is completed. Hopefully you will start up a thread here on the ARC so that we can follow your progress. I tried my hand at making a comic figure in 3D a couple of years ago for the silly week. This is what I came up with: Els
Boxster
Prince of Styrene, Welcome to the board, my friend! I read about the above post regarding Space Spiff and remembered I saw your conversion some times ago on this very kit. Thanks for sharing your works here! I really like the inventive display of your work there! You got Spiff and the ship spot on and I love it! Els, That is some mighty sculpting work you did there and I like that piece very much! Fantastic works, guys! B
Els
Boxster, thanks for the compliment. I saw on the Starship Modeler site that they are selling decals for the UFOs. http://www.starshipmodeler.biz/shop/index....e-decal-set.cfm
Boxster
I prefer the original painting scheme as depicted on the box. Hope to see more people building this kits here! B
