Alexdraft
Hey Guys, I have a question concerning the F/A-18F Super Hornet. I am building the Trumpeter 1/32 scale kit and was wondering what is the organ pipe vents between the vertical tails? The pictures that I have don't show these vents and all the other kit manufactures show a flat vent. What is correct? Please Help!
Dave Williams
Those are the ECS pipes. Trumpeter modeled the current configuration of them, although they are a little crude. Early Super Hornets (and the kits based on them) had a different arrangement of just a vent screen. I think all SHs have been updated to the organ pipes as seen on the Trumpeter kit. One-Oh-Four
The current ECS-exhausts, the "Bard Stacks": And the older type of ECS-exhaust that burned the skin/paint: Both pics lifted from the Super Hornet Gallery-thread. Cheers, Erik. Edited December 1, 2010 by One-Oh-Four
Alexdraft
Thanks Guys, So Trumpeter got the new ECS vents correct but left the cockpit as a block I and not the new block II that would have had the new vents.

Lot 28 and higher Super Hornets have the ECS vents between the horizontal stabs. Those were installed when the later mods had the AN/APG-79 AESA radar installed. I just finished a Lot 29/30 jet but in 1/48 scale. The later mod jets also have the Advanced Crew Station in the backseat.
Spongebob
And they've been retrofitted to earlier jets..... As always, check your refs. Spongebob

Spongebob Although this an old reference to my comment dated 10 DEC, my references are pretty spot on seeing as I get my intell from my friend who is a WSO in VFA-102. But hea! If you've already built an older lot jet and feel like upgrading you model from say a lot 26 to a lot 30+ then have at it. We are talking about models here.
