madmanrick
This info from Hannants today: AX11002V 1:48 de Havilland Sea Vixen FAW.2. This is limited. Airfix have not made enough. Originally it was going to be limited so we ordered enough to last for 2/3 years. When we were told it was a going to be a regular stock item so we cut our order down. As did several other shops. Airfix then decided to only make enough to supply the orders they all ready had. Thus making it a limited production and not making enough. We only found this out earlier this week. So if you are interested, you should probably order sooner rather than later. I am happy that my two are on the way as I type. Rick
Kasatka
I've made few pictures of the plastic in the box and dry assembled the model It looks nice out of the box. I am not an expert and can't tell if there are any shape issues though. Dry fit is very good in my view and there should not be problems in building the kit straight out of the box. http://picasaweb.google.com/sergey.archako...fix148SeaVixen#
madmanrick
Very nice Kasatka, thanks for sharing! I've been lurking over on BritModeller and I haven't heard or seen anything too negative as yet, even the decals have received positive comments, which is a rare thing indeed. So for the most part it appears that Airfix pretty much nailed this one and I look forward to adding them to my stash.
peebeep
'Airfix have not made enough' does not mean they will never ever make any more of these kits. I'd be surprised if anybody who wants one of these kits won't be able to acquire one, notwithstanding all the shock, horror 'limited edition after all' stories circulating various forums. Seems to me that someone at Hannant's has a bee in their bonnet over a breakdown in communications or misunderstanding. peebeep
madmanrick
I also believe that Airfix will reissue these at some point, however, a. there is NO guarantee and b. who knows when that will be? Therefore anyone who is interested in this kit NOW, should order them soon or risk being left to paying inflated eBay prices for the foreseeable future. Also, it is possible that something akin to what happened to the Airfix 72nd TSR.2 could happen with the Vixie and they may never see the U.S.A., so be forewarned is all I am saying. Those folks here in the U.S. (and indeed those that missed out elsewhere) that wanted the 72nd TSR.2 are still waiting for Airfix to repop that kit and there is no indication that they are so inclined to do so as yet. peebeep
a. there is NO guarantee and b. who knows when that will be? The word I'm hearing is next summer. If you want to prevent people accumulating then speculating the best plan is to scotch any rumours that it is a limited edition. As it happens there are plenty available on ebay at the moment, some at quite reasonable discounted prices. We had the same story with the Nimrod, people saying there wouldn't be enough to go around. I've been to numerous shows in the UK this year and believe me, traders can't hardly give them away. peebeep
Matt Roberts
The thing is Airfix has a spate of new releases in the queue (wow speaking of a Airfix kit and I sound like a Brit!) and the new Spitfires, Valiant, Lynx may all be in line before a Sea Vixen mold can be put back into the machine and everything else printed up. Av8fan
I have one of these on order. I would have liked to get more, but, things being as they are, I will wait for the re issue in a few years. that 1/72nd Tsr2 is on the list as well. Jonathan Mock
Wow, this "limited edition" thing is doing the rounds now isn't it? I asked Hornby direct earlier in the week, they said that the kit is not a limited edition item. They have a Facebook page, pop the question there.

I would like to know if it is as good as their E.E. Lightning? If so, I'm probably in for one. Cheers, Tom
Jennings
The answer to the OP is no, it's not limited. See the thread on HS about this. It's just miscommunication or lack of communication. I absolutely *positively* guarantee there will be enough for everybody who wants one to get one. And if you don't the kit will be reissued, guaranteed. J
Daryl J.
And it would be very cool to see a set of spurious decal sheets for her too.

Modelmkr
Perhaps they will do a limited edition version with 10 bajillion rivets on it, sort of an homage to far east manufacturing

Then I have good news for you, maybe. Airfix is going to re-release the 1/72 TSR.2 and it should be due in stores in a month. It's just going to have decals from the anime series "Stratos 4" and have little girl pilot figures astride the motorcycle-style seats in the cockpit. http://www.hlj.com/product/ARF08011

Erm... it was announced beginning of the year, the kit is coming back as a tie in to the anime show "Stratos 4", Airfix had the kit on display at Telford last month and it includes decals for the fictional TSR2-MS as well as the standard "real" version.
