OK, it's time to get going on this GB. I have been looking forward to this one for months and while I have been waiting I have acquired 4 F-18 kits.

1. Hasagawa

2. RoG

3. Academy

4. Hobby Craft

So, the question is, which one do I start with?

Im guessing your asking about 1/72 kits? Out of those 4, the only one I have experience with is the Hasegawa, its a nice kit, not too many fit isssues. I did find the wheel wells a bit shallow and the blanked off intake trunks a bit dissapointing. The Academy is the newest kit, and is very well detailed, definitely the best of the bunch, I have a Revell Germany kit here in the stash, its basically the same kit as the old Esci kit, not very well detailed, and needs some updating to make a modern Hornet. I've never seen the HC kit, though I have not heard good things about it.

I have about 35 F/A-18s built. Mostly the Hasegawa kit, but if I can avoid it, I will never build another one. (and I have a hell of a bunch of them in the stash). The joint between the upper and lower fuselage parts along the nose is terrible. And the side insert on the aft fuselage is very difficult to make fit well. It is a butt joint with no support, and since both mating parts are different thicknesses is is difficult to reinforce.

I have now built about a half dozen of the various Academy versions and that is the kit(s) I will use on all future builds. It goes together quickly and easily, has literally no fit issues and even is comparable in price.

If your not sure what single seat version, A or C, that you want to build, buy the A version. It has parts for both included in the kit. What that means is you get both vertical fins and even two different lower nose parts. The C kit, being first released is exclusively a C model build.
