Hal Marshman Sr Posted December 21, 2010 Author Share Posted December 21, 2010 Those are the flaps at the rear end of the engine cowling, openable to help cool the engine under certain circumstances. The D-15 was the last subtype to have them the same size all the way down. Subsequent versions featured the lower two on each side to have a cut away look.
