yardbird78
I threw this little guy together yesterday and today to get me psyched up for the rest of the GB. The decals are from the Rocketeer 1/144 AM set. NASA # 844 is actually USAF # 17980 and is the airframe that made the last ever SR-71 flight. That was during an open house at Edwards AFB in late 1999. 980 is now on static display by the entrance gate into the NASA area at the north end of Edwards. This is the same kit that I built several years ago using the kit supplied decals. 955 was a test and evauluation airframe that was retained by Lockheed at Edwards and nearby Palmdale. It was never supposed to go on Operational Missions, but the USAF snuck in a couple missions over the Middle East during the Israeli-Arab conflicts. She now resides in the Edwards AFB museum on the west side of the base near the housing area. Darwin Edited January 2, 2011 by yardbird78
