peebeep
I'm a newbie to drums, keyboards is my thing really, but I get to play drums every now and then. They are not 'real' drums but these newfangled V-drum things. I'm still working out how to disconnect the wiring in my brain that wants to make hands and feet work simultaneously rather than independently. peebeep
Shawn M
I've been playing since middle school. Just started refurbishing a set of 69 and 65 Ludwig Silver Sparkles.
Hal Marshman Sr
I was the bass drummer in Scottish bagpipe bands, does that count? Also played tuba in high school, and have played country music on the guitar all my life. Hal Sr
Wolfgun33
I've been playing off and on since I was a kid. Don't have a set right now though. Although the steering wheel in my truck works just as well.
niart17
Been playing kit for about 25 years now. (geeesh I'm getting old) Drumline stuff longer than that. Currently the only chance I get to play is Sunday's at church on their V-drum kit (very nice if you have to play electronic, closest to real I've played on yet) I did the band gigging thing up until my wife and I had our first daughter 3 1/2 years ago. Then driving for hours in a smelly van, load ins, setting up, playing 4 hours, tearing down and load outs at 3:30 a.m. all for $100-$200 a pop just seemed to loose it's appeal when I could be home playing with my family. My accoustic set (Gretch Birch set) has been stored ever since. When I was playing I did a little bit of everything. Rock, classic rock, C & W, cajun, zydeco, zydecore (hard rock Zydeco, blast to play!) horn band stuff, funk and very little jazz. for now, the contemporary Christian charts we play at church are enough to keep me in shape a little but I couldn't do a 4 hour gig today I imagine. robtmelvin
Just when I drum my fingers on the table while I'm trying to figure out how to break it to She Who Must Be Obeyed that I just dropped another wad of cash on kits, after market, a neat new tool I can't build without, etc.. Hal Marshman Sr
We ought to form a band. I'll be the piper. We can be the ARC Highlanders. "By the center...quick march" Terry :( One of my favorite things was to play the Green Hills of Tyrol, a 3/4 time march, and watch the American color guards going nuts because the beat occurs first on the left foot, then on the right. StevenJ
I played the drum set for about twenty years but have not touched them for just more than the past ten-years. Family and two kids makes that hard. Now I play two acoustic guitars (6 and 12 string) which is more family friendly...though I went through a divorce recently and that is now moot anyway. My latest passion is swimming on a masters swim team and that takes precedence over any of my other activities including model building: I've not completed a model in 2-years now. Cap'n Wannabe
Not a drummer myself - I play keys and guitar - but I recently bought a Pearl Traveller kit for the kids to play with. They can both hold a beat pretty well for never having had lessons....unfortunately no room to set it up in the current house..
niart17
What do you call a person that's hangin' out with musicians?A drummer... What's the definition of a bass player? A frustrated drummer that can't play guitar.
Sunliner
I started playing in 1982 (or was it '81?..) Did marching and symphonic band from 7th grade on into my last year of college. Played drums in a few horrible bands during my teens/early 20's...stopped playing for 8-10 years then got back into it. I have a couple of Tama kits (my old Imperialstars from the '80's and some Swingstars i bought back about 2006) and just last week got a set of Roland V-drums so I could play along with my iPod without my wife beating me. How do you know there's a drummer at your door? He doesn't know when to come in. -Mike
David Blackwell
Me too. Been playing since grade school, with a break here and there. Since the oldest son took up drums as well, we are now a two drumset family. I have Tama and Junior is playing a vintage Ludwig. Lots of varied influences (Bruford, Peart, Rich, Cobham, Palmer, etc), enjoying my regular Saturday night gig at the local Methodist Church. Best of all, the pay doubles every week! The hard part is figuring out how to divide my time between building and rehearsing. Glad to see a lot of other percussoids here.
