Tomcat RIO
hi everyone, here with the wip of my most challenging project yet, a 1/32 F-15SG conversion from the tamiya E kit. This project is a commissioned build, but at the same time, to me it's more of the challenge and experience gained from big kits. Having built and converted the 48th version myself, hope i can upscale the modifications, and improve upon the accuracy for this beauty of a kit. i will be linking and refering constantly to my 1/48 thread where i finished the F-15K and Sg, for constant comparison of the scratchbuild and modifications. here are the links. F-15 of the world WIP F-15SG, S, Ra'am display finish thread decals used is a big siamscale 1/32 sheet(ignore the misprinting from manufacuter of the scale) I will only be using the roundels, the rest of the markings, eg the Shikra and the yellow checker tails, will be mask and sprayed. assembly of such a big kit is tedious, i began with small substeps of the easier parts, and also place priority on those parts which would need modification. wings ejector pin marks in the intake were filled up before sanding. the centerline pylon needs to be cut off at the rear tip, if you can compare to the 48th below. long CFT pylon, no significant difference between the E and the Sg here. Tomcat RIO
comparing further, the CFT and pylons of the 32kit are moulded together with the lower fuselage, fortunately the rear exhaust vent area is the same in the Sg and E. however, not so easy will be the 6 individual cft pylons. the SG, along with the K, sport longer pylons. thiese will have to be modded and extended. using the 1/48 academy F-15K as a guide is quite accurate in this aspect. the right dorsal antena which is thicker on the E, will also have to be cut off. a duplicate made from the left tail will suffice. the Sg and K have balanced tails, so to speak. the tigereye and sniper pod will be the great challenge and scratchbuild. BOL rails for the ami120/aim9x are donated by academy's 1/32 Sufa. the probelm will now be to build the racks between the pylon and the rail. GE-110 exhaust nozzles are again, spares donated by the 1/32 academy Sufa. i have 2 of those, which is enough to give me twin burner cans.
Tomcat RIO
and of course, all you evil poisonous supporters of my 1 man GB will be delighted that i am not building this kit alone. how about a Revell one for comparison? i'm actually using it more for practice cutting and trial modding before working on the tamiya. until the next update! EX_Birdgunner
and of course, all you evil poisonous supporters of my 1 man GB will be delighted that i am not building this kit alone.how about a Revell one for comparison? i'm actually using it more for practice cutting and trial modding before working on the tamiya. until the next update! Looks like an interesting build. I will be more drawn to the Revell kit as I have the earlier 1/32 Revell F-15E (1983) which I got cheap at a flea market. I am not a big Eagle fan so I plan to make it a practice build to warm up for my 1/32 Tomcats. As such I am not too worried about accuracy, except that the exhaust will have to be replaced since they are not the featherless ones. A very obvious feature for the Strike EagleÂÂ. I have AM decals for it but still looking for the exhaust. Maybe you have some spare laying around? Anyway, I look forward to your updates. Denis

EX_Birdgunner
This Revell boxing should have both type of exhaust, featherless and feathered. Not the best looking featherless exhaust but its good to my eyesKEi Unfotunately mine is the original Revell boxing released in 1983 based on the M-D demonstrator so it only has the feathered exhausts. Here's a pic of the box. Denis

Tomcat RIO
Have not updated this for so long, well, have been doing some work on this pair on and off. So to tease you guys, here is the cockpit. I had a ball painting button by button and manage to find a sniper xr pod from a most unexpected source, my own other 1/32 project, the academy f-16 sufa. Apparently it is on the sprue but not used. now to make a few of it.

Tomcat RIO
Have sanded down the intakes, refilled seams, sanded down again, for 3 weeks! Every putty in the book save for superglue. I put a foundation of epoxy putty. Then tamiya white putty. Then thickened Mr Surfacer. In between each session is a cursed sanding round.. the forward fuselage is also assembled and sanded filled up the seams of the ldg bay doors with liquid putty one's time waste not!! Using rubber mould I casted 24 pieces of the GE-110 exhaust nozzles, using the Academy F-16 Sufa kit.
Tomcat RIO
The revell kit is also taking shape at a fast pace. Major probelms i met were the fitting of the front fuselage to the main wings joint area. The step was duly filled by epoxy and sanded down. Also, the prominent mould ridges and seams along the front had to go! thts all the updates. probably have more over the weekend, stay tuned
Tomcat RIO
well, time for some real updates... Scratchbuilt lots of Sg- relevant portions over the months.. its all coming together.. Modded the tail with raw epoxy and muscle used the 1/48 tigereye as reference for a upscaled 1/32 version
Tomcat RIO
The tail blips made using aluminium foil and trick epoxy sanding the small intake scoop along the side Of course, extending all 6 CFT pylons with the inner spars. This one takes some magic guts of placard and epoxy, I've casted 1 set for my next 1/32 SG.. primed and preshading
