Phantom ordie
I was just watching a rugby match. Made the super bowl look like a bunch of wussies.
alvin5182
Rugby players eat their dead...............and wounded! And they move, run, tackle etc etc for 90 minutes. Alvin5182
Jinxter13
Rugby: The purest form of football as we Americans know it. Imagine a American football with Rugby rules. The regular season would be only 8 games long with 75 players per team (and hospitals under contract).
peebeep
Rugby players eat their dead............... You forgot the babies! It goes without saying that wimps need not apply for Rugby Football. All the matches so far in this year's Six Nations have been very physical but well contested. peebeep
Phantom ordie
Are there rules?
peebeep
LOL yes! Although not easy to explain, but then again it can take a while to grasp NFL. peebeep
alvin5182
Rules? Tackling should be below the shoulders. You have to "wrap up" the ball carrier. No cross-bodies! The ball can not be thrown forward. You can kick the ball forward and only those players behind the kicker are eligible to retrieve the ball and advance it. Rugby: a ruffians game played by gentlemen Football (Soccer): A gentleman's game played by "ruffians". Alvin5182
Wege
don't forget the other variant - Rugby League. I don't know which was harder ... League or Union.. both have different skills. RL = 13players. RU = 15 players. Either way - fun!
Edgar
And they move, run, tackle etc etc for 90 minutes. 80 minutes, actually; tried it, at school, and hated it. As a member of the second row, in a scrum, getting your head crushed between two (allegedly friendly) backsides has nothing to recommend it, so I gave up, and walked round the junior cross-country course, while the keen types ran round the senior. That meant that I got home, free from sweat, half an hour earlier, and without the risk of a broken neck, from a collapsed scrum. Edgar
Wege
Ah... as a Lock.. Don't forget where you are supposed to put your left (or right, depending on which side) hand..
spike7451
And,unlike American Football,Rugby players don't wear body armour & helmets!! My cousin played for the British & Irish Lions in the mid 1970's... Merv ('Loosehead Prop')
saintsdave
Are there rules? Nope - At least not in Rugby Union. They have Laws

blackhawk7
The main difference between League and Union is that in League when a tackle is made play is reset and the opposition move back ten yards. However in Union, a maul forms over the tackled/tackler for possession of the ball and play continues. Basically Union is a much more 'flowing' game. If you want something with an apparent lack of rules to an 'outsider', you should take a look at AFL Tom
