MattC
Hello folks. Righto, time to get back into this, took some time away from modelling for a while as I was losing interest, so I thought the best thing was to just back right off and shove everything in a cupboard and forget it for a while. That turned out to be a bit longer than I expected, and involved moving house again and suchlike pandemonium. Tonight, I sat down at the PC and flicked onto ebay and thought its time to pick this up again. So yeah, no plans yet, I've decided against my "theme build" ideas, I was modelling myself into a corner somehow, I'll just build on a whim, whatever takes my fancy. I'm hoping I'll stick with it this time, I suspect I was forcing myself to build before. Hope everyone's well and happy and whatnot. Cheers Matt
Alvis 3.1
Welcome back! May it be as or more fun than before. Al P. Edited February 15, 2011 by Alvis 3.
MattC
Thanks, I think "fun" is the keyword, thats what had gone missing from my modelling, it had become a chore which I kept forcing myself to do.
robtmelvin
Welcome back. It's definitely time to take a breather if it stops being "fun". After all, we do this for fun and if it isn't, what's the point? I can't speak for anybody but myself, but I wouldn't be surprised if many, if not most of us go through periods where we hit some kind of burn out. When it happens to me I take a breather and usually find my interest returns after a short time.

Skyraider Maniac
Nobody's even tried yet ... :) -Gregg Gregg, BUILD SOMETHING! ANYTHING! AS LONG AS IT INVOLVES PLASTIC!!!!!!!!!! :) :D That help??
gaz262
I don't think I ever atcherly 'gave up' on modelling - there was a time when I discovered what girls were for and I threw the spares box out and everything around that time..... That was 35 years or more ago though and I've been modelling ever since. Getting fed up with aircraft? Make a target tank, or motorbike kit..... Welcome back Matt and enjoy it all over again! RKic
Gregg, BUILD SOMETHING! ANYTHING! AS LONG AS IT INVOLVES PLASTIC!!!!!!!!!! :D That help?? Seconded. Go grab a simple kit (no more than 40 parts) one color paint scheme, and BUILD AWAY!!! Things that come to mind Tamiya 1/72 Bell X-1 Tamiya 1/48 A6M2 Zero Tamiya 1/72 Aichi Tenzan
GreyGhost
I have actually built a car or two in the semi-recent past ... I just need to get some paint supplies to switch over to some of the aircraft kits I have in the stash ... Gregg
MattC
Thankee one and all, good to be back, took the advice and went for something simple and easy. So, one 1:72 Morane Saulnier MS.230 en route from fleabay Gaz - wasn't so much getting fed up with aircraft as just getting fed up with bashing plastic on auto pilot, I'd got a bit wrapped up in being so keen to build, I forgot how to enjoy. I shall be sticking with 1:72 however, just because of shelf space and cost
JasonW
Welcome back Matt. We all have been there. We've all hit the wall (well, most of us anyway). I build armor, ships and aircraft as well as the occasional sci-fi/spacecraft thingy every now and again. If I find myself getting frustrated with an airplane, I'll dig into my stash and pull out a tank or a ship and vice versa. If I hit a wall really bad, I put down the plastic and glue for a while and take a break. In 30 years of model building, I've always found my way back because I really like to build things and models are a big part of my life for that reason. Sitting down at the bench and putting glue to plastic really helps me unwind at the end of a day at the office. Honestly, it is therapeutic on a certain level, it allows me to slow my mind down and relax.
MattC
Thanks Jason, Been toying with the idea of some armour/ship/car builds, also considering doing my builds as small diorama's (vignettes?) to add more building interest to each model and break it up a bit. I'm a complete noob at armour/car builds, fancy doing some though, but in the case of diorama's, not sure on availibility in 1:72, but I'll figure it out as I go along. Cheers Matt
Skyraider Maniac
I have actually built a car or two in the semi-recent past ... Can we see some proof? there is, after all, a "display case" section of the forum, and I for one am interested in some physical proof of said models :D after all, a model from Gregg is like spotting a Dodo... The only thing rarer is the "loch ness monster" of completed models..... Something from the Bench of Holmes! So let's see 'em

Cheers Matt Matt, there is lots of stuff for armor in 1/72. Lots of vehicles, figures and all sorts of diorama stuff. That is my primary armor and aircraft scale now, having gone down from 1/35 scale armor due to space. There is also a more recent trend into 1/48 armor which is gaining a lot of steam lately. Tamiya has been making an especially noteworthy push with some really nice 1/48 stuff. A little pricey though, but very detailed.
