Neo
WE ARE LIVE! Come and join us GB page Hi guy’s Welcome to The Escort Service GB where it’s all about the fighters covering your 6 o’clock The general idea here is to build any planes from WWI to modern day that served at any point in the escort business of any nation. Chase planes (i.e used for following evaluation flights ect) will not be included in the GB. This means Air to Air load out ONLY, drop tanks are optional Examples of valid builds would be: P-51 mustang that escorted B-17’s Me109 that escorted bombers going to England F-16 that escort Air force one F-4 and F-8 that provided cover for others in Vietnam Cobra and UH1 gunships Etc Unfortunately there will be no What-ifs and a WIP (work in progress) thread in mandatory The build cannot be more than 25% complete by the start of the GB You may use as much After Market and scratch building as you want to make our jaw’s drop in amazement! You may also build as many kits as you like in the time limit We will most likely have a raffle on donations bases and hopefully we can find some sponsors (hint hint) As for the running date, We are live Jan 1st 2012 until June 30th and your host would be me(Neo) and Blunce Time to reach out and see if I might interest you with this group build. And don’t forget to vote **Edit GOOD NEWS This Group Build is official Start Jan 1st for 6 months Get those escorts ready to build HERE WE GO Edited January 11, 2012 by Neo
jimz66
If I knew I could finish one of those in time and had a spot to put it, I'd be in. But with school going on I just cant do it.
jester292
Pass. I like it, but I just can't commit to group builds. Everyone gets so gung ho they can't control themselves, so they sneak in an early start. By the time they're in month 3, all enthusiasm is gone and they're wrestling with poor fit, cracked future, and angry pets clearing off their workbench. By the end of month 5, they're behind schedule and won't finish on time anyway. Maybe that's just me, but I get the feeling I'm not the only one. I'm much more successful starting builds that I know will take 8-15 months anyway. Aaron
jimz66
Yeah that's one of my major issues is time. I just can't commit to finishing anything that fast.
waylandcool
I'd be up for that. Sounds like an interesting concept and a little bit of research could produce some interesting results.

ross blackford
:D, British night fighters (eg Mosquitos, Beaufighters) often escorted British night bombers. ;), Ross.
Kostucha
Who escorted British bombers?? My grandfathers old squadron (315 Polish Fighter Squadron) with the RAF escorted a few times (one idea I have is building a Mustang III flown by Horbaczewski). Most commonly though, they escorted Beau's. British Spits escorted American bombers as well. The great thing about this is that it includes many different aircraft! It's understood that some platforms performed a multitude of roles, and not just escorts, which really opens the door. The key here is that so long as that a/c is depicted in the capacity of an escort role, it's all good! So we're looking at tactical escort... not the Golden Hawk CT-133 that 'escorted' the rest of the Golden Hawks from airshow to airshow... know what I mean? This would then also include rotorheads into the mix as well (gunships escorting UH-60's for example, or UH-1's from an earlier generation). You can also depict something of interest as well, such as a Luftwaffe pilot escorting a wounded B-17 out of enemy airspace... it's a bit of a stretch, but how can you say no to something that has been correctly described as an "escort"? All about the escort service. It certainly is a broad span, including many different aircraft types, however given that freedom of movement, it certainly would allow us as builders to hopefully find that one aircraft type we like, or a story we heard about, or simply an excuse, to build something we want. Cheers, Mark.

Cobrahistorian
I may jump in with a 78th FG P-47D. I usually build 9th and 12th AF birds, but I just found a 20mm cannon-armed P-47 that I've gotta build. Yes. 20mm cannon-armed, PLUS 8 .50 cals.
