LDSModeller
Would you count the WWII Escort Aircraft who escorted Convoys in and out of say Great Britain (Sunderland, PBY's ) or in and out of the ConUS, or any other area of conflict?

Sorry for the late reply If they escorted the convoys for Air treats sure(i.e over the British channel). But the PBY is more for submarine and ship recon and attack so that would be a No GO they are just not Air to air capable (unless you get lucky with a tail gun!) As for other new im hunting for some more sponsors and still waiting for the approval of the GB by the mods Cheers Neo Fly escort Edited August 15, 2011 by Neo

Many of them carried an AIM-9 Sidewinder on the out board pylon. Capt Dethlefsen earned his MOH on an F-105F Wild Weasel mission where he used the gun to shoot down one Mig-17 and chase away 3 others that were attacking other F-105s in his flight. Capt Thorsness earned his MOH in a similar fashion when he used the gun to chase away Migs threatening his flight. Darwin

Bigasshammm
I'd be in to build a P-38. I'll have to do plenty research first but whatever. In my grandfather's mission log from the war he talks about P-38s often as their escort. Will have to find out which fg.

Litvyak
Hmmmm. Is there anything Canadian post-1947 that'd fit?
rm20886
Count me in on this build. Not sure what I am going to do yet though. Hmmmmmm, time to look through the stash.
Litvyak
Hm, read through the thread again... I'm concluding that the only post-1947 Canadian subject that's a go is a CF-18... if so, I'm in with a Desert Storm Hornet.
Neo
Yep they qualifie Quote from WIKI In 1991, Canada committed 26 CF-18s to the Gulf War on Operation Friction. [N 3] The CF-18s were based in Doha, Qatar. During the Gulf War, Canadian pilots flew more than 5,700 hours, including 2,700 combat air patrol missions. These aircraft were taken from Canada's airbase in Germany, CFB Baden-Soellingen. In the beginning the CF-18s began sweep-and-escort combat missions to support ground-attack strikes by Allied air forces You are Go for launch
rightwinger26
I'm in!!! Here's a question if it counts as an escort. I have a picture from the last squadron I was in, some of us were riding in the Omega Tanker to a detatchment out west, and four of our birds flew off the wingtips and took gas on the way out. I'll have to dig the picture out later, its a real picture not digital, there are a few with two Hornets on each wing. But does that count as an escort, because if it does I have a decal sheet for VFA-34 from the time period of the photo that I've been dying to use. If not, oh well, there are pleanty of other subjects.
Litvyak
Cool, then I'm officially in with a CF-18! :)
