Ken Middleton
that's pretty neat Eric - looks like static displays where they lay the bombs out in front of the aircraft
Expat Tomcat
Reminds me of the bomb farm, you've never lived until you've eaten your dinner amongst enough explosive to blast you to kingdom come. " the smoking lamp is out throughout the ship due to the movement of live ordinance, that is all!"
laval66
How do you eliminate the seams on the bombs? I have a heck of a tough time with that. Edited February 21, 2011 by laval66
Eric2020
I have an awfall time as well sanding the bombs, but it depends how the kitmakers make them as well. There are those who make them as 2 piece to get one bomb or even 3 parts. And there are those who make the bombs in one part. If the bomb is just one part I get rid of the assembly points, than glue them together. After drying for day or so I scrape most of the unwanted plastic away. Drill very small hole on the same line it has assembly points for later in the build. If thise are too wide I fill them all up and than sand the bomb body to shape. Last bit I use my own homemade sanding sticks to get it almost as smooth as one can get. Last bit I polish with only scotchbrite. And it goes into small box. Once I have enough series of the same Origin or type, I paint them. I paint them in layers, first coat serves as an primer, and I thin the paint as well. Never straight out of the tins. I used revell paints but did stop using that as the quality of the paint has dropped too very bad. second coat of the olive and let dry and harden for several days. Than paint the fuses Aluminium and than the yellow, make that as far as possible forward and study pics found on the net. You can paint the yellow by hand as well, but make an good as possible straight line. If you are happy after the first round of yellow you can do the second after an day. After that Turn to the olive again, and see how wide you want the yellow to be. It takes time to paint them, but fully armed well painted bomb your model deserves. Hardest to find while I was doing the bombs are the English made bombs. Only found very few of them and got help from spike7451 who told me what humbrol colours to use as I can't see them that well. I will post more on bombs and there colours in the near future. any questions please feel free to ask! Full set of bombs for 1/32 Strike eagle of Revell. sanded the whole body smooth, but not sure which Mk 8 these are. And hapy if someone can give me an anwer to that???? Bombs painted and drying Here are the bombs ready for sanding. I used miliput as that is hard enough to sand in the shape of the bomb body. All sorted by type and scale. And ready for futere use. mikestomcat
Hi Eric, that's a great idea having them all done like that. I get close to the end of a build and have to arm the aircraft and the last thing I want to do is paint and details bombs. Mike.

twhite80
Great idea! Nothing worse than having your jet all ready to go and you still have to paint the ordinance.
Eric2020
Thanks!!! It is very time consuming to paint all the bombs. But it also gives me the pleasure of writing how I do them. I can write an tutorial, and perhaps have it sticky somewhere here on ARC. Weapons are most of the time forgotten things, and altough much can be found on US made bombs, there is not much on English or French Types of bombs, and i did never see any information on the colours being used on the bombs of the various types. So I turned to Spike and Asked him how to paint my English bombs, andthose are underway now. I hope to post pics of that progress soon and how I painted those. Please ask me if you have questions or need some help. Edited February 27, 2011 by Eric2020

Eri
Eric, Have you thought of selling those ready painted bombs? I would love to procure them from you on 1/72 scale and maybe future 1/48 projects. Or i can ship you what bombs i have and offer a fee for ur services. I dont think shipping them from netherlands to Singapore would cost a "bomb" :0)
rul82iam
Wow Eric, those are really beautiful! You do very nice work! I don't like doing ordnance-so tedious! You could sell those puppies! Well done!

Eric2020
Thanks guys!! I have made progress on the English types of bombs. I post pics later this week when they are done. I just got the yellow bands on the bombs ready. and happy with the way they look now. Meanwhile I have painted some more english bombs in the first layer. and started working on rocketpods found in the old Matchbox kit of the F-4. Not realy planning to drill all the holes but found that I have to change the angle of the forward parts.
Eric2020
Here are the pics and how far I am on the english bombs. Painted wide yellow, and after that painted the same green again making the yellow band complete comments welcome.
Aggressor Supporter
Good idea with these bombs. You can always use them and like how you keep each type in their separate bins.

Eric2020
I did some more CNU bombs. top picture are CBU's comming from Academy F-15E 72nd scale. Painted them yellow first waited several weeks to dry with reason. After that painted them with model master gloss Insignia white. Reason I used this paint is that it doesn't yellow over time. I brushpainted them in 2 coats. These are CBU's found in an Revell 1/48 A-10 kit. All of them go into storage for future use :-) Edited October 22, 2011 by Eric2020
Eric2020
Next on the line are LGB of various types and scales. Starting with these Early Paveways found in the Revell F-16 of various versions 1/32 scale. Airbrushed overall Humbrol 155 as brushpainting them would not be an option. Now I can paint the details with other colours I got from JFVicente. Further more I have painted all kinds of bombs in series and those are on the block drying or ready to be painted Edited April 12, 2011 by Eric2020
