rul82iam
This was an inspirational post for me! It's nice to see people like me who take 'forever' to complete something! I usually work one project really hard, and slap something together to break the 'seriousness'. Right now I am working on a resin disaster F-7U-1 for a small museum. During this year-long project, I slap something like a Matchbox 1/72 Skyraider together!
Britaholic
I am very slow, yet I work on my model every day, it still takes me 3-4 months to finish a kit. Den
smithery
In my heyday, it would typically take me 1-2 months to finish a kit, with a more complex build taking me 3 months. I usually spent 1-2hrs each day at the bench. These days, I spend less time at the bench (but I'm getting back up to speed), and I average 3 months per. I was lucky in that the birth of our daughter didn't slow me down at all. We were blessed with a sleeper, and from the age of 6mos, she went to bed at 6:30pm every night, and stayed down until 7:00am the next day. Even at the age of 5, we still can't keep her up past 7:00pm.
Grant in West Oz
I suppose this will vary lots, and perhaps between days/weeks/months/hours, but I'm still curious. If I'm devouted, and take a couple of hours a day, I'd say mostly about 3 - 4 weeks. 42 apple. Big ones take longer. G Edit: Say 8 hours per 1:48 good kit prop fighter. Proportionally. Edited February 24, 2011 by Grant in West Oz
Bigasshammm
Before I found ARC it would take me a just a couple weeks. Now it takes me a couple months. Damn you ARC. lol
Bulldog 09
For me about 6 months to a year if I work straight through with out taking long breaks. I also do not build straight out of the box, I am a sucker for super detailing and scratch building. Lately it has taken me longer just because I went back to school to work on two degrees (both in aviation). So with a family, job, and school, model building has had to take a back seat for now. majortomski
A couple of years ago, because of threads like this, I actually timed my self on an OOB build. It took 13 hours over about 10 days. http://www.internetmodeler.com/2005/decemb...n/Roden_DVI.php Tom
janman
It takes too long. Way too long.
Paolo Maglio
I depends by many factors but usually it takes me 3-4 weekends for a 48 scale kit. For kit I have made several times it could be much faster, so now I can finish a Draken in a couple of weekends! Some kits (ie: Hornet and Super Hornet need more time) while F-16 of F-86 are simplier. Now I'm working on F-22 and since it come with 3-4 times he pieces of a Draken I wonder if I will be able to finish it in a month, I use to work on models around 20 hours during weekends plus probably another hour during the rest of the week, a few minutes each time. On Christam eve and Easter there are several good days to spend on models so I work faster. Cheers PAolo Edited February 24, 2011 by Paolo Maglio
RAIN
Good to hear from everyone. Just getting back into it, I'm excited, and guess I am rushing through my first few builds (of my old Monogram models). I'm trying so many new techniques that I've learned here. I've noticed thought that my current A-6 is taking me longer. I'm saving my Academy F-15E, SU-27UB, Mig-29AS, and my Hasegawa F-4J, F-4E, and F-14 until I get much better on the practice ones. A-4Silverfox
When Tamiya came out with the P-51B I built, painted and decaled it in one day, about six hours worth of time. On the other hand, I built the 1/350 scale Titanic and that monster took eighty-eight hours. I know that because it was a contract build.
