Kostucha
I completely agree! Huge learning curve, great group! Lots of fun! Cheers, Mark. Edited March 6, 2011 by Kostucha
darren
This is a great group, and I'm learning a lot about an aircraft I didn't know all that much about. I know I'm not the most accurate of modeller's, and the comments are appreciated. Right so anyways here's the pics of yesterdays work on the fort: As I said I had to take the bulkhead off the tail end charlie position, as that was meant for the option not the Cheyenne tail: Ball turret assembly: More soon................................. darren
Right guys I'm about to start the engines on the fort. And Revell give you to options of having the cowl flaps open or closed. And my question is would the cowl flaps be open when at rest? Or closed?
Kostucha
Typically, closed. Looking Really good!
darren
Thanx Mark. I'm pleased with it so far! So closed cowl flaps it is. Edited March 8, 2011 by darren
Shawn M
the more I see of this Kit the more I want it. Looking good!
darren
Anyway some of the progress so far today. I've assembled the wings, put the u/c in, and worked on the engines.
darren
I've installed the engines, and I'm thinking of leaving one of the engines un-cowled, but not sure.
plane_mc
Darren, your build is looking good. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I have this same kit and can't wait until I have the time to work on it.
darren
Ok so now it's looking like a fort. And I've dropped the elevators, and displaced the rudder to add a bit of interest. I was going to add a chart to the nav's table, but the printer's playing up at the moment, as the paper keeps pulling to the right. But anyways pics of the fort: I'm leaving wings off until I've painted the fuselage, as it's easier to handle with the wings off.
Shawn M
Nice Darren!
Kostucha
Very good stuff! You're just truckin' alone on this one! Cheers, Mark.
darren
Thanx guys. Now I know this fort was overall Gloss Black, but would she have had an anti-glare panel up front?
Kostucha
That's a very good question.... in these shots it doesn't look like it: I don't know if this is much help to you, especially being a B&W shot and looking for a difference in tone, but given the high amount of reflection from the top, doesn't look dulled at all... just my thoughts on it. HTH, Cheers, Mark.
Kostucha
A couple more for fun... Further, as these crews operated at night, I don't see the need for an anti-glare panel... thinking P-61's here... but that's opinion, not necessarily fact. Cheers, Mark.
PGB
Bare metal or Neutral Grey chin turret though... :) All the best, PB
darren
Thanx guys. And now an update. And I've applied the colour and it's brush painted Tamiya X-1 Gloss Black: I've left the flying controls unpainted as these will be painted Matt Black. Bigasshammm
I could never get a good finish brush painting. Superb work. I take it then you are leaving the nose piece clear on the side? Trucking right along.
darren
The clear pieces weren't in place at the time (which makes it easier for painting, and decalling). So last night's and today's progress on the fort. Lifelike tell you to put the star and bar behind the waist gun position, but either the waist gun position is too far back or the insignia is too big. So I beg the question did this particular fort have staggered waist positions? As I thought all G's had the staggered waist positions? So I placed it forward of the waist gun. And looking at a profile of "Tondalayo" in Osprey's B-17 units of the 8th Air Force the squadron letter's "JJ" are in the right place. And I'm pleased with it, so that's all that matters. And sure does look nice in Gloss Black. Anyway on with the pics: Edited March 14, 2011 by darren

Kostucha
Looking great... and sure enough, yep, she certainly had the Staggered Waist positions. Cheers, Mark.
Dirkpitt289
I've never seen a black fort but I like it. Bravo!
darren
Ok thanx guys. So who stuffed up? Me? Or Revell?
100th BG
Not all G's had staggered waists. Check the reference section where Mark has listed S/N's. You can see where they started staggering the waist. See post 177. Edited March 15, 2011 by 100th BG
