1/48 Eduard's MiG-21MF

Recommended Posts

I'm sitting here tapping my foot, waiting for the mail man to arrive. He politely skipped my entire neighborhood today. I'm told by the local postmaster that this is "normal". Funny, in all the places I've ever lived up to now, this is not "normal" for the USPS. We pay for six day delivery, and we're supposed to get six day delivery.

Meantime, we wait. And wait. Annnnnd wait.

Your MiG is looking fantastic!

Auhlik, WOW, this is an amazing build! I am starting to want to get any kind of Eduard kit. I like their PE, but don't like that they paint it. I like painting it and that takes away the fun. Really love what your doing and can't wait for the next update!

Jeremy

WOW!!!!!!!!!! 2500 posts. AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I love you guys!

It really does look fantastic!

1/48 - wrong scale. 1/48 - wrong scale. 1/48 - wrong scale. And suddenly I'm starting feel it ain't necessarily so! :D

1/48th scale is the only way to go, well with the occasional 1/32nd scale!!!!! Down with 1/72......lol!

Y'know, I'm curious why they did the upper avionics bay cover as a separate piece. Innnnnnnteresting methinks.

Eduard doesn't work with sliding molds. They couldn't have made the dip of the "hot air spill" (according to WWP) on top of the nose if they didn't separate it from the fuselage halves.

 Wasn't that the seat for the windshield de-icer sprinkler? It's got a bottle if you look into it...

A nozzle on the top of the nose would have been sufficient.

I wonder if the radar cooling system doesn't also act as a boundary layer suction system.

I've used IDE flat cable from an old PC, slice it and remove wires.

Then trim it and paint it while still flat.

Now there's a neat trick!

Great looking MiG you've got - too bad it's in the wrong scale. :)

Cheers,

Andre

Hi all,

Today I have no photos unfortunately... But my build is progressing well.

Fuselage is closed and the wing bottom is "welded" in place. I am working on a bijou now (ext. fuel tanks, rockets, launchers, landing gear etc.)

All in all the fit is still excellent. I just need to use a little bit of putty to blend the intake lip ring to fuselage.

I also found the biggest drawback of this kit.

It seems guys in Eduard ignored the most prominent and the most visible detail on main gear legs - the levers to control the leg covers.

They are visible on each photograph of main landing gear but it is missing in box.

We discussed that quite extensively with colleagues why the hell they did not put it on PE fret or even provide it in plastic. They did not put it even in Brasin wheel set.

But OK. A friend of mine is already working on a set to correct and/or enhance several points. We plan to use it on our next MiG build.

So thats all for today. More to come

Regards

Sasha

I though the levers system (the "trapeze" ?)were there to keep the wheel vertical during landing gear operation. It's silly as it's one of the characteristic MiG-21 features. Eduard will probably address the issue in further boxings.

I've got 250+ kits on my stash, but after reading this post, I decided that it will be 251+ in the very near future :worship:

Looking forward to see this project taking shape! ;)

Phantastic work so far!

Sasha, all you pix are missing from the thread due to Photobucket bandwidth restrictions on the size +volume of images you have recently posted. Does the forum have a method of posting images directly? I would like to see your work.

Thanks!

Looking good! You didnangood job matching the interior color with the photo etch, what did you use?

I've used local brand colors, Agama. They are water soluble acrylics. They have very odd basic green and blue colors.

I've mixed them together with white. The ratio was about 1:1:1 ... A fellow modeler mixed this also but using Gunze MrColor.
