Unless I really missed it, we don't have a parking lot specifically for the "Hun." Okay, we do now!

Here's the gorgeous display in front of the 185th ARW HQ on Col. Bud Day Field in Sioux City, IA. I took this photo over the weekend on my way from ND back home to TX.

Great Indiana photos, especially the F-100 veterans. Thanks for sharing. Does 979 still exist somewhere?

Negative,'979 was one of the first batch of Hun's converted to QF-100,it now resides at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico after being taken down by a Sidewinder hit IIRC.

The last Hun(s) I ever saw fly in USAF markings was at D-M in 1989 while at a Snowbird deployment,I was crewing Maj. Layne's F-4E(he flew the last operational Hun sortie in 1979)when two QF-100's went past down the taxi way,we held our start time back a few minutes and soaked in the sights and sounds of the Hun once more.I remember all this because we were doing cartridge starts in the LOLA area the same sortie and of course I had a hung cartridge on my jet,it was also the same sortie we had a jet IFE to Gila Bend a hung Mk.82,it was a very eventful day!

Very nice markings!

322nd FDG markings, Foster AFB based about 1958. I love that Dyess airplane! I photographed it many years ago at MASDC still in "Tacos" markings.

The airplane is marked as 1753 but is actually 1752.

Interesting background information and to see how it was before.

Is this a former Thunderbird scheme for the Super Sabres back then? The tail scheme is throwing me off as I do not remember seeing any of their tails looking like that. Thanks in advance.

No, it was the "Sky Blazers", a Thunderbird equivelant operated by USAFE. They flew F-86Fs in that scheme prior to the Hun as well.

With the recent release of an ANG F-100 decal sheet, this is a good time to share some slides I scanned from the collection of Springfield, Illinois aviation historian and photographer Job Conger. The photos were taken at the 183rd TFG in Springfield or at Scott AFB open houses.
