DDC
Now that the Hurri is finished, i'm going to do the MkI Spitfire. Time to fire up the camera! Cheers, Denzil Edited May 11, 2011 by DDC
DDC
Box top: Progress: Not really assembled, just sitting together to look pretty :D Good new is, Sofar i've glued heaps of sub assemblies together, cockpit painted etc. Bad news, all the parts are so amazingly thick. wing trailing edges are about a scale foot deep :D The prop looked like a 2by4 etc etc. so the thinning has begun. Bye Bye engraved panel lines! Can't have a horribly clunky looking spitfire wing, that's just blasphemy! Denzil
DDC
Ok, End of weekend report: Cockpit is together and ready to go: Nothing fancy, all brush painted masking tape seatbelts and i tried using watercolours to do a 'shadow' wash in the cockpit. Turned out OK, but the canopy will be shut, so its more for my practice than anything else. Fuselage is being closed up for good now Work is progressing on thinning the wings. they now have a nice sharp trailing edge, though it was at the expense of all the recessed panel lines. Nothing a bit of rescribing can't fix. Cheers, Denzil
HOLMES
Dnzil Nice to see you back on this .. LOVEKLY work on the pit....
DDC
Thanks Holmes! I'm on a bit of a roll with her now :) The wings are on! Here are the thinned wings The rudder was also in desperate need of thinning: So here's how she looks now: The gaps around the wing were somewhat unexpected: Starting the filling process How she sits as of tonight Im actually looking foward to getting back into her ASAP! Thank YOU Airfix GB for bringing back the fun ;) Cheers, Denzil

gkicsak
Im actually looking foward to getting back into her ASAP! Thank YOU Airfix GB for bringing back the fun Denzil, Really enjoying your build. It is coming on quite well. I'm doing the Hawk and as you said about the fun doing an Airfix kit, I'm enjoying it too. Cheers, Gabe
DDC
THanks Holmes and Gabe :) Gabe, your hawk is looking great, and you're right about moving quickly through the build. It's how modelling is SUPPOSED to be, fun! Cheers Denzil
DDC
Howdy all, We're at Round 2 of the wing-fuse fill/sand session. We're getting there... An interesting note about this kit, i was surprised at all the leftover bits and pieces that come in the box. A Multitude of canopies, including a bubble one: Props and things of all sorts: And more little bits and pieces, including a retractable tailwheel: All the above bits are NOT used to complete the kit. AIRFIX, my Spares Box says THANKS :( Until next time.... Denzil
gkicsak
Denzil, Phase 2 looking good. It's coming along quite nicely as well. Looks like your spares box will be quite big by the end of your modelling career. Keep going and keep posting. Love what your doing. Cheers, Gabe
DDC
Thanks Gabe! Phase 2 felt like it dragged... Almost there i think! The spares box is invaluable! The more the merrier, especially since i feel another 'WHIF' coming on Spit's currently looking like THIS: This Kit is turning out to build more like a Limited run, than a mass produced Kit! I've used far more putty on this than on the 40 year old Hurricane kit! Pretty sure all the Bogging is done, now just a matter of finishing off a few panel lines, throw on the canopy and we SHOULD be ready for paint. Fingers crossed! Almost there, almost there.... Denzil!
gkicsak
Denzil, The best bit is to come - the painting. It's an awesome looking plane that has all the classic shapes. The build is coming on quite well and you're making great progress. I'll keep watching how you're doing. Cheers, Gabe
DDC
Cheers Gabe! She's pretty much together now: I didnt like the blank radiator and oil cooler faces hanging under the wings, so i used some plastic mesh from a Tamiya car kit to busy them up a bit I've skipped a step here, but the sinver has been painted underneath, masked and now we have on some prown with a bit of post-shading :D Mask her up and then Bring on the GREEN! Denzil
DDC
Okey Dokey, home straight now! I've skipped ahead a few steps here. Green paint went on, followed by Humbrol Gloss, then the decals, a Humbrol Matt coat and a touch of exhaust staining A little bit of detail painting here and there and we'll be ready for final assembly :D:D Denzil
DDC
And here we are at the final chapter! She's all done. Thanks for reading folks:) Denzil
gkicsak
Denzil, Your Spitty looks fantastic. I can't believe how good these Airfix kits on this GB have turned out. Your paint work looks spot on as well and is an extremely neat build. Can't wait to see some more of your work. Cheers, Gabe
DDC
Thanks Gabe, and thanks for all your comments :) It's been great fun, and I'm wondering if I can squeeze in another build before our time's up ;) Cheers, Denzil
