Eurofighter Typhoon 1/48

Recommended Posts

Hi all !

I want to introduce my 4th model after a twenty year break from modelling, and my first build in this forums

It's a Eurofighter Typhoon from Revell. Will use photo etched parts from Eduard for this kit.

I already build a Tiffy between my F-15 and F-16, but it that was a birthday present for a friend of mine, who is a Luftwaffen member.

So, this one's for me.

This is the box

and these are the photo echted parts

ok, we'll se what we get out of this...

stay tuned

Yesterday, i began with the build of my Tiffy.

First step was the cockpit and the bang seat. I had to remove all the details for replacing them by the

photo etched parts.

bereinigtecockpitteile9jnk.jpg

then i watched images of the real bang seat.

On the left side of the seat, you see a oxygen hose i think. Want to copy that. I took 0,25 mm silver wire,

a needle and a little bit of plastic sheet. Twistet the wire around the needle, and ready was my oxygen hose.

A small peace of the plastic sheet simulates the adapter.

And this is the painted bang seat

Cockpit parts were already painted. The parts wet look disapears with a little bit flat coat.

The wiring of the wheel bays is finished.

I used 0,2mm silver wire and 0,4mm copper wire.

next step will be to give the wheel bays a flat black coat, after that i'll spray it white.

any suggestions?

Hi Mark!

I think it's here

pict00026k9z.jpg

however, after a black coat, i painted the wheel bays in white colour.

that's the result after dry fitting with the fuselage.

the wheel bay in front needs a little bit of sanding, cause of the super glue, then i'll paint the wires.

I've done some minor updates. The main fuselage is glued, and the cockpit is "fitting" in :hypnotised:

the wings are glued either.

But, there is a lot of work...

watch this:

passungenauigkeiten6knd3.jpg

passungenauigkeiten40uht.jpg

passungenauigkeiten1bneq.jpg

a little bit sanding here and there, then everthing should fit perfectly .. i hope :D

Wings are also glued. Air intake is filled and sanded. After the sanding, i applied a coat of Tamiya white.

Here you see the gaps between the wings and the fuselage.

Hi Mark!

Must say, i expected more, but the kit is ok. over 200 pieces for about 20 euros is not that bad.

The kit has it's flaws, but are we modellers or not :D

Personally, i have a lot of fun with this kit.

After dry fitting with the fuselage , i made a fitting test with the airbrake. The airbrake also doesn't fit well as you can see here, needs a little bit sanding.

Go on further with the air intake, this is Revell's solution. I don't like it !

This is my intake solution. I took some old nozzles out of my spare parts box. They were from my first kit after my break from modelling. My cats destroyed this model :fight:

It's fallen from my desk.

I sanded them a bit and made a fitting test.

I'm not sure if i do it like this. Could do it this way... not sure

Intake plugs are for cowards! I like your idea, but I'm not sure how long the intake trunk is supposed to be. The fans that close to the front might look odd, but it beats the blank wall approach... :yahoo:

Hi Mark, you're right :)

I decided not to use the old nozzles as air intakes. i'll substitute them with plastic tube from the home owners shop.

The APU exhaust done by Revell doesn't look comfortable to me, my first plan was, to use resin parts. But then i decided to use

some shucks or a shrink tube out of my electronic stash. Looks much better than Revells APU exhaust.

Revell's APU

Stuff

apuexhaustmaterialfm8q.jpg

First, i drilled a hole into the fuselage, then fit in the shuck. Nothing's glued, just a dry fitting.

apuexhaust3w81t.jpg

apuexhaust4tjh4.jpg

And these are my new intakes

gebogenespvcrohrkux5.jpg

passprobepvcrohr1nnpp.jpg

And some dry fitting with the vents. For this, i used the flameholder of the old nozzles

passprobepvcrohr2kutm.jpg

Now, i have to do some filling and sanding. After that, it's time for the intake painting job.

Cheers, Patrick

Great job so far Patrick. Really love your attention to detail, and your problem solving solutions. Never would have thought to use PVC pipe for the intake trunking, and your electrical work in the MGW is just amazing and crisp. Can't wait to see more, thanks for showing!
