This is one of my favorite shows so I have every intention of being there. It's definitely worth the 2 hour drive and the wife enjoys it, too! I also get to catch up with my former co-worker, roommate, simulator partner, and all around good friend who is a second-in-command on the Yankee Air Museum's B-25 (her husband's nice, too-and a pilot-in-command on their C-47 and B-17). I still haven't been able to swindle them into a free ride, though.

I'm signed up to fly down with the Harvards (the ONLY Canadian aircraft at this years or last years show)

I got screwed out of my flight to TOM last year so hopefully I'm able to actually take the flight.

The Harvards are going to be static only this year, so I won't be spending most of the mornings getting the yellow birds ready to fly in the show. (more time for pictures!)

Now I just need to arrange the time off work...

Since most of the aircraft that are appearing are also going to be at AirVenture 2011 which is July 23-31, I'll settle for that. AirVenture is just a twenty minute ride from my house whereas TOM is a long haul around the lake and with gas being already at $4/gal.

I had planned to go to Airventure but I got jerked around at work regarding my holidays and I had to settle for TOM. Next year Ill make it back to EAA.

With all those Goodyear Corsairs I might have to take the trip up again this year. Plus a 190? Never seen a 190 in all the shows I've ever been too.

I'm actually a little disappointed the Blues are there again this year. Last year it was kind of nice because the crowd was a little smaller. When the Blues are in town it brings out all the yahoos that don't know anything about aviation or the great WWII planes. Nor do they know anything about air show courtesy.

About 5 years ago I almost punched a guy out at TOM because he kept sticking his crotch in the back of my wife's head while she was sitting in her chair in our spot we "reserved" with our chairs and blankets when we got there. As if that extra couple of inches closer would make his picture any better. I had him removed from the area.

Anybody that will be coming through the Chicago area should definitely fuel up before you get anywhere near here. It's $4.50 already. I'm just glad I ride the motorcycles most of the time, if my son wasn't 2, it would be all the time. Until winter hits anyway.

Also, this will be my little one's first airshow season. I want this to be his first. I'd like him to see the WW2 planes first, w/o so many fast movers, so as to acclimate him slowly. Although, the SS launch in june just might take care of that for me.

That wasn't the tall, biker looking guy was it? I remember seeing some sort of rukus.

No he was an average joe. We were right near the B-52 so this was back before their hangar burnt down. My dad held me back then we went and got one of the security guys and enough people vouched that the guy was being a dick so they told him to leave. Not sure if they kicked him out of the show but they kicked him out of my area which was good for him.

I definitely plan on going if I have the cash. Last year was a bit lack-luster for me, and I told myself I'd only go if there was something new, or worth seeing. A whole bunch of Corsairs? Yeah, DEFINITELY worth seeing! So, barring any issues, I should be there.

Sorry that happened. TOM is usually very well behaved and other then the one incident I mentioned,I have never saw or heard of any problem.

It was nothing TOM related I'm sure. We've seen it happen at every air show we've been to that I can remember. These jackholes with their cameras come storming up on you when you took the time to lay out your blanket and your chairs along the fence and staked your claim. They have no concern for your personal space as long as they get their shot.

When we took my 2 year old to TOM last year we made it a point to drop our stuff at the very back of the grounds right along the taxiway. This was great for the majority of the day but then when the B-17s sat to roll out they were right in front of us so everyone came around. i had to shoulder a couple people away from my kid.

I call it the "human condition."

Yeah..I have seen a few people like that at airshows. Its when you get right at the fence..and then people somehow get the fenced pushed another 8 inches or so ans stand IN FRONT of you that gets me. or they get right in front then put their kids on their shoulders. if your going to do that..he kid will see just as good 10 feet farther behind. its the "ME,ME,ME..never mind everyone else" syndrome that has taken hold in about 75% of the North American population

thats my rant for the day

Agreed. I don't even bother with the front anymore. Usually the safest place is right in the middle. Last year's TOM was ideal though as we were by almost no one and only had that 15 minute window where the 17s were just sitting on the ramp lined up with engines running that a bunch of people came around. Otherwise it was perfect.

Doesn't look like I'll be making the TOM this year. We're actually on vacation starting that weekend but we already have plans to go to about 3 different zoos and a 2 day trip to Cedar Point. If I can get her to get the Friday off before the show we may try n go to the Toledo zoo and then continue over to the field and see what comes in. I've always enjoyed the day before shows better than the actual show days.
