1/48 Kinetic vs Hasegawa F16's

Recommended Posts

Well seeing how I started the thread way back, I suppose it only fitting that I comment now.

I ended up building the Kinetic F-16C Blk 52 "Hellenic" kit and was pleasantly surprised by the quality, it's a little over engineered in places which resulted in a few headaches at the time but nothing that great when I look back. There is no droop in the nose as was reported when they first hit the selves and any reservations I had on the kit were quickly dispelled.

After the Kinetic F-16 I built the Tamiya CJ version and although the latter is the better F-16, it's not by far. It's clear to see that the Kinetic version is based on the Tamiya and when you consider the pricing the later Kinetic versions are definitely worth considering.

Hence why I'm trying to swap my Hasegawa F-16D Advanced for a Kinetic F-16DJ.

That, along with the DG/DJ, was their first F-16 release. Not sure if they used the newer nose in the later batches but the first batch had the weird droop.

Thanks Netz, have since found out that the 'Brakeet'(Blk 40) box does indeed come with both styles of tail plane, so you can also model an earlier spineless IDF a/c.

As for the nose droop problem this has been rectified on all Kinetic F-16 variants, except for 48002 'NATO Viper' which was discontinued before the fix. The 48005 DG/DJ kit has been rectified and all production batches since late 2009 are of the corrected nose, however there may still be some of the original batches lying in shops around the Globe so beware.

Kinetic is still selling the KI-K48002 'NATO Viper'. It is not discontinued.

That link doesn't suggest they are still selling it, just showing you what's in the box. The reason I said that the kit has been discontinued is because that is what Mr Chung told me himself, it's not to say that it isn't still available at model shops.

Uuuuugh! I am going to fork over the money for a Tamiya kit, and stick my Kinetic NATO Viper tail and decals on it. And I know the perfect prototype for my Kinetic 48002 F-16, and its misshapen nose:

OUCH! I'm sure that the seat harness was as tight as he could make it and he still almost slams his face into the HUD controller. Did he get out ok?

Yes, he walked away from it. From what I read, this happened at the Oshkosh airshow last summer. The pilot ran out of runway and the nosewheel dug into the grass.

There are lots of photos online, and video on Youtube.
