CD48006 - Turkish Air Force F-16C/D Part 1

Recommended Posts

The second release of September will be the first installment of the two-part Turkish F-16C/D decals in 1/72 and 1/48:

Hopefully I will post the final artwork this weekend. These sheets will encompass almost the entire history of the F-16C/D in Turkish service (from the first Block 30s in 1987, all the way to the spine & CFT-equipped Block 50+ delivered last month), and all squadrons and major variations of the unit insignia will be covered.

Here is the final draft of the artwork. The stencilling will be on a separate, small sheet. There will be enough stencilling and national insignia for two full aircraft, perhaps more with appropriate selection of subjects and some help from kit sheets. Anyway, the options on this sheet will be:

1. F-16C Block 40, 91-0009, 141.Filo

2. F-16D Block 40, 88-0014, 141.Filo

3. F-16C Block 40, 88-0031, 142.Filo (old unit insignia)

4. F-16D Block 40, 89-0042, 142.Filo (old unit insignia)

5. F-16C Block 50, 94-0088, 142.Filo

6. F-16D Block 50+, 07-1015, 142.Filo

7. F-16C Block 30, 87-0009, 143.Filo

8. F-16D Block 30, 87-0002, 143.Filo

9. F-16C Block 50, 93-0658, 151.Filo (old unit insignia)

10.F-16D Block 50, 93-0693, 151.Filo (old unit insignia)

KursadA,

Are these still on schedule for September this year? I am after a copy.

Absolutely! They will be printed by Cartograf, and I plan to start selling them around mid September. The 1/72 sheets will follow in a month or so.

I also started the second sheet which will cover the remaining squadrons. This second sheet will probably be released in November:

KursadA,

Awesome news - thanks.

I should really have put this here as you will probably know.

Tell me something, I rarely (if ever), see a Turkish block 50 (CCIP and normal "C" tail without parabrake) carrying any pods etc on the MCID. I see plenty of other CG with the parabrake carrying targetting pods.

Does / has the block 50 CJ ever carried anything on the MCID that you know of?

I have trawled almost every picture on airliners and airfighters to no avail.

Thank you very much!

Hi Felix,

I believe TurAF uses Block 40s for strike duties, while Block 50's are used for SEAD/DEAD and interceptor roles. Since LANTIRN (and recently Litening & Sniper) pods are limited in quantity and only issued to strike squadrons, they are usually only seen on Block 40s. I think this will change with the introduction of the indigenous targeting pod (ASELPOD) into service later this year.

KursadA,

Sorry to bother you again - perhaps you can help me. I recall seeing on the net somewhere a Turkish F-16 block 50 test aircraft with black and white "test decals" on her and now for the life of me I can't find it.

Do you happen to know where to look, Google is not being friendly to me today.....

Thank you in advance.

This is most likely the aircraft that has been in use to test the CCIP upgrade modifications and new weaponry (JSOW etc.) here in the US. I would do a Google search for "Turkish F-16 CCIP JSOW" etc.

I got the first batch from Cartograf today. They look great! The stencil decals will arrive in a later batch in a couple weeks, and I will have these on sale. I am still working on the instructions, which will cover everything you need to know on Turkish F-16s. I think you will agree that these will be the most comprehensive and well-designed decals for one of the largest F-16 fleets in the world.

Felix Lucius: Is this the Tamiya kit? Looks good. I noticed you used the low-profile AIFF antenna which would probably limit you to a post-CCIP Block 50, which are relatively very few in number. One of the options on the sheet, 94-0088, looks great:

I don't know which airframes are being used to test indigenous weaponry, so I don't know which airframes would be suitable for test markings.

Here is a detail from the sheet showing the "100th Anniversary of Turkish Air Force" badge. Cartograf did an excellent job in printing these.
