pastafarian
I found a couple mentions of Navy B-29's (weather and aew birds). Did they just leave these NMF or did they go with dark blue? A local children's museum has a spot for a 1/48 B-29 in their model collection and thought it might be cool to do a different color. John
Steve N
I've never heard of nor seen a pic of a blue B-29, but that doesn't mean it never happened. It would sure make for a striking model. SN
Dave Williams
According to Wiki, the 4 Navy B-29s were used as test and carrier aircraft for things like the D-588 Skyrocket. As they weren't used for regular patrol duties, I doubt they would have bothered to paint any of them blue.
Ham
The "Fertile Myrtle" was flying into the 1980's in civil livery. Here is a photo of it when it was used by the Navy as a mothership for the D-558-2. clicky
Jennings
There used to be a web site where a guy had done a bunch of 1/48 what-if models, including a PB2B-1 in overall gloss sea blue. It looked killer, but it never really happened. The Navy only ever flew four B-29s, all for drop ship/test purposes, and all were natural metal.
mungo1974
Im guessing this one Jennings? http://bathead.com/modelaircraft.html
pastafarian
That's the site I originally saw Mungo. I just couldn't find any pics of an actual b-29 done up like that so I figured I'd ask. bummer, bathead's plane looked really cool. John
