modelldoc
I need help. These astronauts in 1:76 scale are horrible. There are only some parts to glue, but nothing works. No Humbrol cement, no Revell liqiud no special resin glue. What can I do? modelldoc
Jay Chladek
Superglue (or CA glue) works. Just a drop is all you need to put the backpack on and you are good to go. That is what I used when I kitbased the Airfix Apollo astronauts with helmets from a set of Monogram astronauts for my shuttle build a few years back.
K2Pete
I had to rework these little guys for this 1/72 LM build and ran into the same problems. NOTHING worked. But I found that after applying Future to the figures, as well as onto the glueing surfaces, (letting it dry) CA, and if I recall, white glue, worked. It's not a strong bond, but it held the pieces together! Hoe this helps! Pete
modelldoc
Thanks guys, I'm happy that I'm not alone with these special problem. modelldoc BTW, the pic looks very nice!
Alvis 3.1
Worst plastic ever for figures. All their 1/76 figures are like that, as are Italeri and several others. It's just evil, I tell you. Imagine selling these to kids for school projects, then trying to help them get some sort of paint to stick...ugh! Just look at em fuunny and the paint pops off...too bad as they aren't bad in the detail department. I found that giving them a Krylon primer coat helped. A bit. Alvis 3.1, who has been cursing Airfix figures since the mid 70s.
umtutsut
I still have some of these guys hanging around for various projects. Since their suits will be white anyway, I'd try putting a thick coat of white paint where the pack pack goes -- i.e., filling the holes -- and then stick the PLSS on the figure. I haven't tried this, but I think the paint would act as a pretty good adhesive. B) Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum & ex-NASA flack)

What can I do? modelldoc Assuming it's the horrible "soft plastic" that toy soldiers are made of, the way to go is either drilling and pinning the parts together (use superglue) or heat-soldering. Use a cigarette or those mosquito "spirals" to melt the plastic in a controlled manner, then press the melted parts together. Still not perfect, but it's the best I can come up with. modelldoc
All astronauts are ready now. But all glue was a horrible trip. What can I do? Wet paint is the best glue!. The astronauts on the rover I fixed with wet paint! Last problem was a decal for the flag. I found one in my stash, but nothing works, only Clearfix helps to fix it. Now the crew is in action, never comes more. modelldoc
