dgassie
Guys, I model anything that gets to my desk. 1/24 cars, 1/48 and 1/32 planes, plus some armor as well. I have finished models all over the place but don't have enough space for a huge display case. There's this one wall that's five foot wide I could use and could probably go as far as a 14 inch depth. Any advice, ideas or photos you could share? Thxs!
dylan
Ikea Detolf, cheap and easy detolf
thegoodsgt
Detolf are on my "to buy" list. You can also put them on a base to make them look nicer. See the photos here from a militaria collector: http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89337 You can even combine two to make a larger display case: http://www.tofunction.com/model/2011/02/detolf-dual-mod/ And a mod for adding additional shelves: http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89443 Edited September 2, 2011 by thegoodsgt
dgassie
Thanks for the links guys. Those Ikea units are inexpensive and look nice but they don't have stores here in Mexico. Once I find a design I like, I'll have it made locally. There's a small town about 15 from where I live that specializes in wood furniture... the whole town! I've had a lot of beautiful furniture made there. I'm also looking for a design that is dust proof. Thanks!
okthree
Looks like the Detolf cabinet is no longer available in the US. I can't find it on the Ikea website.
Sig Saur & Son
I built three of these into the wall of the Man-Cave. and bought two of these from a TV store going out of business.
Fustercluck
You can always get a cheap bookcase, one with a flush front face, put some felt or rubber around the front edge, and screw a big sheet of clear plastic or plexiglass to it. Cheap, easy, and you can drill holes to light it. Here is an example of one at walmart. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ameriwood-5-Shelf-Bookcase/15413573 Plastic and plexiglass you get from a plastic supplier.

P-38 guy
I built this about 13-15 years ago. Not perfect but does the job. Mike
