B-17fan
Last month during a trip back home to central Iowa, I stopped at the state capitol in Des Moines to see the Iowa model. The last time I saw it was during a grade school trip about 45 years ago. It's still as impressive as I remembered it.

Spruemeister
Awe inspiring! Is there a history of the model? One of my life long dreams would be to do a similar scale USS Nebraska BB14 for display somewhere. Minus the laundry. Maybe display it alongside the USS Nebraska SSBN-739. I was in the Iowa capitol building about 1986, but I don't remember the model. I must have had a total brain shutdown to have missed that. The builder(s) didn't miss a single detail, did they? David Hingtgen
The builder(s) didn't miss a single detail, did they? Loking really closely, I want to say that's actually the Missouri or Wisconsin, physically at least. I'm not seeing any of the Iowa-specific features that should be there. And several things the Iowa never had (that MO and WI did). I mean, yes, it is incredibly amazingly finely detailed---it's just not the Iowa, as far as I can tell. Structurally, BB-63 and -64 were pretty much identical at that time, but BB-63 had the SK-2 radar (which this model does), and BB-64 had the older SK set. She did get the SK-2 in '46, but by that time a lot of the 20mms had already been removed, and this model has a full wartime complement. So, yeah, it's the Missouri with an inaccurate paintjob and a couple of "61"s slapped on the bow... <_<
