B-17fan
Trying to get a late F built for a 4-day display next month. Results are satisfactory so far except for the astrodome. We're not getting along real well right now. I cut the astrodome fairing from a Monogram G and am going to see if I can sand it to fit. If not, I'll conquer the Koster part. WymanV
I like that nose-I want just a dozen of those. Is that vacuform? It looks heavier. Ken
B-17fan
It's one of the four nose pieces included in the Koster kit.
mungo1974
Looks great, which B-17 are you building?
B-17fan
I used the Monogram astrodome fairing. I carved as much as I dared with a new knife blade and then sanded it to shape using sandpaper draped over the nose for the correct contour. It wanted to slip sideways, as did the Koster part, so I stopped frequently to correct fore and aft alignment. I'll use the Koster part some day primarily because I don't have another G fuselage to part out! I drilled the fuselage hole using EVERY bit in my drill index and finished with a step drill. After decades of gluing loose fitting cowls to the cowl flaps, a light finally came on and I glued small pieces of .020 stock at the 9:30 and 2:30 positions on the flap part. Now the cowls slide snuggly into place and are centered.
WymanV
Nice! I'll have to keep that tip in mind. Ken

B-17 guy
I like where this build is going! I love the F models, especially the later ones. Keep up the work good work!
B-17fan
Someone wondered about the markings for the F. These images should provide a strong clue. I have to paint the markings on the B-24, and it shows. These are going to be 4-footers, maybe 3 if the light isn't too strong!
