OfficialRyan
Ok, so i've bought a revell dreamliner kit, and i'm currently painting it... However, i've come across something rather strange - the paint will go really patchy when i'm putting it onto the plastic kit. Like, you can literally see where the paint kind of 'scratches' around the area, then you see a bit of plastic as opposed to the white paint, then the plastic again. Looks like a scab if you can imagine a scab on yourself, the inside being the plastic bit, and the edges being where the paint is. ALSO - Where the decals go, no matter how little paint I put over the area, I can't see where the etching is... How do I get around these? Am I doing it wrong? I've done an A380, A Beluga, and a 747 with no issues such as this... Help!!
blunce
Firstly, your post is in the wrong forum. You should've posted in the general discussion or perhaps the tools and tips pages. You'd get alot more people viewing your post and more help that way too. Second, it sounds like from your description that the surface you are a painting has surface contamination on it. Could be mold release agents (typically oily) or could be oil from your fingers or ??? I would give the model a good wash with a toothbrush and some Dawn dish soap and let it dry out. You might also consider a primer and/or at least giving the paint something to bite on by sanding the surface with something like 600-800 grit sandpaper. Just enough to make some micro scratches for paint to grab. Third, for you decals, you'll need a decal setting solution. There are a few choices out there, but I prefer Micro Sol. It comes in a red bottle. There's also a blue bottle that you are supposed to use to place the decal, but I used mine a couple times before tossing it, as water works just as good. Once you have the decal in place, blotted out the bubbles and water, you'll brush a bit of the Micro Sol on, and DON"T TOUCH IT. Don't panic, it will make your decals get all wrinkly, but they will shrink back down and into (usually) the panel lines. Sometimes it helps to do 2,3,4 applications of the Micro Sol, just be sure not to touch it until it's dry. The decals will fall apart if you try to mess with them while they are wrinkly. Are you airbrushing or brush painting? What paint are you using? enamel, acrylic?
richter111
I have had that occur as well, looks like patches on the kit. I dont know what causes it I also had a kit that no matter how much I cleaned and prepped it, the paint would not lay down, it would only fisheye
CUPRAR
I always give my airliners a coat or 2 of primer and I spray my White on. Maybe give that a try buddy
dhtrident2e
Surface contamination comes to mind first. However, you're not telling what type of paint you're using. ¿Maybe its something that wont bite into plastic? the way you describe the simptoms really sound like it, otherwise it's an apocaliptical case of contamination... saludos, Trident. dhtrident2e
You don't mention if you primed first, Maybe the primer and the paint are not compatible??????? (don't ask me how I know about it.....) saludos, Trident
