AlienFrogModeller
Pegasus, quick builds...I know you usually pay for what you get, but am curious. PAC Models, same thing, any one have any thoughts?
madmike
Pegasus aircraft are pretty basic kits and you will need to use plasticard to build undercarriage doors etc, though templates are provided. They can be challenging to build as well. Edited September 19, 2011 by madmike
Steve N
Re: Pegasus. It depends on which Pegasus you're talking about. There was a "garage" outfit called Pegasus back in the 80s that produced some very crude 1/72 kits, using low-pressure injection molding and white metal detail parts, and as mentioned above you often had to make parts like landing gear doors yourself from plastic card. That company is long gone..I don't think they have any connection with the present-day Pegasus, which makes a line of snap-together aircraft kits in 1/48. I haven't built any myself, but from what I've heard they're not bad. Since they're intended for younger novice builders, the detail is simplified and parts rather thick, but according to reviews they're reasonably accurate and go together with minimal fuss. Might be good for a stress-relief build or to test some painting techniques. SN Edited September 19, 2011 by Steve N
Kevan Vogler
The only Pacific Coast Models I'm familiar with is an American outfit that specialises in models of Italian subject matter. They have their own line of models, usually 1/32 WWII Italian subjects, which are limited run in nature and often with resin and PE involved. They are highly detailed and cost a pretty penny any time I've seen them. They also import a lot of hobby supplies and kits from Italian manufacturers. I've not heard of any connection between them and Pegasus.
dnl42
Here is an example of the Pegasus Hurricane from this forum.

EDWMatt
I have a couple of the PCM 1/32 kits. They are contract-molded in Eastern Europe. Plastic is done by Sword. I'm not sure who does the resin components (CMK?), and the etch sure looks like Eduard. Very nice decals, usually with multiple options. Typical limited-run kits. If you've ever built a large MPM or Special Hobby kit, you know what to expect. The Spit XVI has the entire Cammets resin conversion included. The Spits are not in the league with Tamiya, but are not as expensive, either (I got my XVI for $45 on sale). All are very build-able with a little "modeling skill". Pegasus is an offshoot of Pegasus Hobbies, a large hobby shop in Montclair, CA. Again, contract molded (by whom, I don't know). As others have mentioned, snap kits intended for the low end of the market. They planned a 1/32 Spirit of St. Louis at one time (actually saw the test shots in the store 4 or 5 years ago) that was never released. Have their 1/18 Bell X-1. A little clunky, but cool. AlienFrogModeller
Awesome folks for the feedback. I'm on the road and am looking to purchase some quick kits to build to pass some time.
