Flyboyf18
OK for those yelling at each other over claims that solar, eco, nuclear, green, wind and compressed air is the best, take it to another thread!!!!! Please!! Back to the topic things hanging from rear view mirrors!!??!! WUWT?? A CD - what you don't like it? You got it memorized?? Your GPS screen - get off the road and use a map!! Knick knacks - are you not supposed to be able to see forward, ie the direction the car is going 97% of the time for safety????
Steve N
I thought that in most states hanging crap from your mirror was illegal. And those GPS thingies have got to be an equal distraction. I routinely pass cars on the freeway at night with one of those things glowing on the dash. Seems to me it would impair visibility at night as badly as a TV (which are illegal for that very reason..at least in view of the driver.) SN
Two Mikes
how about those long, LED light bars that guys would put in their back windows and the lights would go back and forth ad nauseum?? Now it is time to get the Harley Riders into the mix. Hey, I am glad you like your bike but why do you feel the need to pull in the clutch and rev the obnoxious motot under each and every underpass you go under??
Bonehammer73
Dukes of hazzard remakes. Take a nice car and clown it up... I've seen two that were real riots. First one, unfortunately no pics, you'll have to imagine it. Picture a couple of "01" roughly sprayed on from an aerosol can onto an old jalopy of a Ford Escort Mk1, probably just because it came stock from the factory in that lurid orange of old crash test memories. Ding! one poor man's General Lee to go. Second one: Another Apecar which was really cool had been repainted in F-117 style. Looking at the cabin, one can see why... and it's got the right number of wheels to boot.
richter111
The GPS screen thing makes me curious. I know in many states (if not all) having a TV screen is forbidden where the driver can see it. Is there an exemption for the GPS screen?
richter111
Actually, those look kinda cool...

dkobayashi
How is doing something in a RHD car any different that doing the exact opposite thing in a LHD car? By being on the left hand side of the car it's WAY more difficult to see oncoming traffic while sitting in an intersection.
Les / Creative Edge Photo
By being on the left hand side of the car it's WAY more difficult to see oncoming traffic while sitting in an intersection. What? There is a reason why the driving position is on the left when driving in countries where cars use the right side of the road. You have better viability of on coming traffic. This is especially so if one tries to pass a car and must move into on coming traffic lane. A RHD car in a world where one drives on the right side o the road has much of that vision blocked by the car in front and must take a greater risk to move out to pass. Making left hand turns would also be much more risky in a RHD car. Of course in nations where they drive on the left side of the road the situation is opposite. Nothing is supposed to hang from the rear view mirror. Any GPS I've ever used automatically dims and switches from the non road area's being white to black for that very reason. Ad if you are looking at the GPS screen for as long as you would a TV screen, your doing it wrong. And most people are smart enoigh to put directly in front of their view of the side. Again, that would be doing it wrong.
Jay Chladek
Top Gear America had a cute episode where they had the guys make three replica movie cars for 2 grand each. One was a Nissan SX made to look like a Back to the Future DeLorean, complete with gull wing doors. Rutledge had a 90s Trans Am set up to look like Knight Rider, complete with a Staples "That Was Easy" button for the turbo. And for car number 3, yup, it had to be a Plymouth Duster painted in General Lee colors. :D The most goofy looking abomination I EVER saw on the road less than a year ago was a white Chevy Chevette with yellow flames AND a trucker style diesel exhaust stack on the passenger side. It was SO wrong on so many levels that it was almost cool looking. As for GPS, I have one that I use and because of the wavy dash of my Focus (and the lack of a flat surface for the suction cup mount to stick to), the only place I can stick it is on the windshield. Plus, sometimes the small GPS units don't lock onto the satellite signals too well if they are mounted too low in the car interior. But I only pull it out for long road trips, or trips to places where just a simple map can't tell me exactly where it is. It has paid for itself many times over. It doesn't restrict my visibility at all since I hang it low in the center of the windshield. Anybody that sticks it up high by the rear view mirror is kind of a dummy for doing so as then it can restrict vision, along with the cord that you have to plug into the cigarette lighter. Diamondback Six
I dunno, sometimes they have their uses... like if the Westboro Baptist Lawyers Cult come to town looking for a controversy to start a fight they can sue over, the Hell's Angels or Patriot Guard Riders drown them out quite nicely. :D

Lucien Harpress
In no particular order... -"Wings" on a front-wheel-drive car... -Truck nuts -Fake hood scoops -Sport-bed trucks with Standard-size bed caps (or sport bed trucks in general) -Trucker exhausts on pickups that come thorough and take up part of the rear bed As for motorcycles, I could go on for a while about those. Showboaters on "Zip-Splats" (crotch rockets) who have more money then common sense? Harley riders who spent so much on their "MURIKAN" bikes that they couldn't afford mufflers? Or, for that matter, refuse to acknowledge you exist if you DON'T have a Harley? And what's up with the leather girly-tassles? It's been said that Harleys are the most efficient way to turn horsepower into noise.... (DISCLAIMER: My first (and so far, only) motorcycle was a 1980 Yamaha, so I may be a bit biased on this. I don't have a problem with Harleys specifically- just those "holier-than-thou" riders that I mentioned before.)

Flyboyf18
In no particular order... -"Wings" on a front-wheel-drive car... Glad you mentioned this, I was wandering around a car show once and came across this lad with a (fill in your favourite brand) FWD car and a pretty efficient spoiler ON THE REAR!!??!!????? So being in a bit of a chit disturbing mood I asked him if at speed the thing became effective. He stood tall and said well yes of course, as if I knew nothing about aerodynamics. So then i asked him if when this thing went to work if it lifted his front wheels off the ground!! His eyes glazed over and I could hear the brain gears grinding so I quietly walked away.
GreyGhost
Actually wings or spoilers on the rear of FWD cars are effective in conjunction with frontend downforce devices as well ... Gregg

T0M4ever
Sat Nav is a bit of a double edged sword. They can be great for trying to get somewhere new, as long as you use your driving brain too, and don't just rely on the Sat Nav instructions. But some people are 100% dependent on them. They use them every day, even for the journey to work they do 500+ times a year, and only do what the Sat Nav tells them, and ignore all road signs. You do hear stories about people who go the wrong way down a one way street because of GPS instructions, one family was killed last year when they drove onto a 60mph road the wrong way because of Sat Nav and were hit almost instantly. I've had a close encounter while using Sat Nav before. I was driving in France (hence the Sat Nav), it was early in the morning and very foggy. I was driving slowly, but because visability was so bad I was relying on the road map of the Sat Nav to work out what was comming up ahead. The map showed a roundabout up ahead, and there were some road works around the area I could see. I slowed down and started to go around the roundabout to go straight on, and I was cutting the corner a bit so I was close to the island when I saw some headlights comming for me. Luckily I wasn't going fast and moved over to the right to let the other car pass me on my left. What had happened was the road works had closed half the roundabout, so it was now a straight road with a little kink in where the roundabout used to be, but the Sat Nav didn't show this (either because it was a temporary change, or it wasn't on the latest map update). The French road signs could have been a bit clearer too, they didn't make it very obvious what was going on. In conclusion, Sat Nav is good in moderation!

Toss it in your glove box or in the console between the seats. You're in college! You should be able to remember where you put it. It's just in the inside of your car. It's not like you've misplaced it inside a warehouse. Figure it out, man! LOL!
