Next Revell 1/48 Subject

I think it is going to be....

A model kit! (what do I win?)

As for AD-5, Matchbox did one (A-1E specifically) and I've seen some nice kitbashes done with it and Monogram Skyraiders to correct its shortcomings. Indeed a 1/48 AD-5 would be a nice subject.

How about a 1/48 MH-53J PaveLow. Man would that be nice.

Especially if it was built around a revamp of their old HH-53C, updated to modern interior-detail standards... really, I'd like it if they did an Academy/Hasegawa/et al. and retooled the kit so that they could do the entire Sea Stallion/Super Jolly/Pave Low/Ya'sur 2-engine "family tree" just by which "add-on" sprues were bundled in with the "core kit".

And added pre-notched droptank sponsons instead of making you cut your own and hope your cuts are good enough... I have enough trouble cutting along panel-lines, never mind "unguided".

However a 1/48 B-47 would be interesting.

Jari

I did hear some talk of a 1.48 B-47.

This was to be A-model doing the airframe components in fibreglass like their massive 1.72 kits and then all the engines / cockpit etc being done by Paul Fisher, not heard any news on it latley though.

How about a T-37? It's never been done before, and it's probably "close enough" that they would use some moldings from the old A-37 kit. (Before you laugh, they figured the A-6, EA-6A and EA-6B were all close enough that they reused too many parts.)

As for someone who sarcastically mentioned teen fighters, I don't think they should be so sarcastic. Revell's recent teen fighters (Strike Eagle and Superhornet) have been really nice representations of their type, at a much lower cost than the competition.

Although, I still put in my vote for a 1/48 B-2, with one-piece wing halves (maybe vacuum-formed with injection-molded internal structure for rigidity.)

Hows about a B-32 Dominator, or maybe a B-45 Tornado? As a nod to our cousins across the pond, maybe an Avro Lincoln or a Hawker Tempest II?

New tooled B-47 and B-52 would be nice as well. With the BUFF, I liked to see one with options for a C-E and possibly an F version.

Since someone brought up about a new tooled B-17F, I liked to float the idea of a 1/48th scale B-17C/D (including markings for a Fortress Mk I).

Almost forgot, why not a 1/48th F-86H?

While this thread is for 1/48 primarily and the BUFF is 1/72, I agree--like my thought on the H-53s, the tall-tail BUFF would be another great place for a "family-tree" toolset with variant specific detail-sections around a common "core".

I can tell you what it won't be:

It won't be anything that was solely operated by the US. Given that the majority of the market for models is based in the far east, there is absolutely no business case to be made for making one of the jet aircraft above (as much as I'd love to see a 1/48th B-47). I don't think the average Japanese or Chinese modeler has much, if any, interest in a US cold-war jet aircraft.

a 3rd vote for the F-35 here! (i'm a Jet guy...)

if they are smart, they'll know that soon, we're going to be submerged by F-35 images everywhere (in the west)

which is a great help for sales...

I want an AMX. With single and twin-seat options, and a huge decal sheet full of exotic special schemes!

If a mainstream AMX kit ever surfaces, my money's on Italeri.

Cheers,

Andre

To be honest, I would love to see a 1/48th scale classic propliner. Ideally a DC-6/7 or even a Connie. They've got international appeal, pretty much every western nation flew these back in the day, hundreds of colorful markings to choose from and they are some of the prettiest planes ever flown.

If the size is an issue, maybe a Martin 404?

Of course none of these planes had swastikas so it will never happen.
