Hasegawa F-4J Phantom II

Recommended Posts

Hi mates!

I'm looking for a Hasegawa F-4J kit but i'm not sure if it has engraved or raised panel lines. I can't find any available review on the net. :crying2: <_< I have noticed that the version "show time 100" has one-piece canopy.

Does anyone has this kit in order to help me on this? Every kind of information will be much helpful and appreciated! Also, i am willing to build it in RAF's markings (service), so i will need 74th Sqn decals, as well.

Thank you in advance!

Yannis

I have the "Showtime 100" version (Kit No. P1:2500). I haven't built it yet, but I can tell you that it does have a multi-piece canopy. The external stores & pylons have fine raised panel lines, but the wings & fuselage have engraved panel lines.

Hi mate!

Thanks for your help! Do you know if every Hasegawa's F-4J kit is molded the same (panel lines and multiple canopy pieces)?

Also, by saying "external stores" you mean weapons?

Thanks again!

Yannis,

Take a look at this site: http://www.modelingmadness.com/splfeat/kr/has48d.htm

It has a pretty good description of what's in each Hasegawa Phantom box. You should be able to figure out what options are boxed up in the kit that you have.

I hope it helps! I can tell you that the chart's helped me figure out which Phantom boxing I need for my wants.

Cheers!

Although the kit was originally a raised panel line kit, for the last 20+ years, only the recessed panel line version has been sold. You would have to be be quite unlucky to accidentally get a hold of one of the old raised panel versions. All of the Hasegawa F-4 kits have the multi-part canopy. Some include a 1 piece canopy in addition to the multi piece canopy.

This review may answer some of your questions:

http://modelingmadness.com/scotts/mod/rf4e.htm

The RF-4E uses a few of the parts that were tooled up for the J, such as the basic unslatted wing. Reviews on the F-4E can uncover some details as well since Hasegawa designed their Phantoms to pretty much be modular. Overall in the case of the J model, it builds pretty well with only the typical craziness involved with any Phantom kit. Many modelers tend to spring for resin ejection seats at least since the stock kit ones tend to be kind of lacking. In my experience, you can put as little or as much work as you want into one of these and they end up looking pretty good in the end, although Phantoms are NOT the easiest subject to build.

Can you believe it will soon be 30 years since the first Hasegawa 1/48 F-4s came out (1982). The F-4C/D and F-4J were the first. Tempus fugit.

But we can't count the F-4C/D as a good kit, it's got raised panel lines!

This is my only Hasegawa F-4, so I can't say what the others are like.

Yes, weapons and drop tanks too.

This kit is the almost 30 year old kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hasegawa-1-48-F-4J-Phantom-II-P1-/350501692612?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item519b8764c4.I am not sure if it has been reissued with other boxtops. It has the raised panel lines and kit # was in the P range. I think all of the Hasegawa Phantom kits have the option of open canopies some have both options.

This kit is the newer version with recessed panel lines.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hasegawa-1-48-F-4J-Phantom-II-w-one-piece-canop-HA07206-/250805884930?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a65321802.I believe this kit has been reissued in several other boxings. It also has the USAF style slime lights molded on the fuselage and tail.

Heys, guys! Thank you all for your attention and help! You are great!

Does anyone know in what kit can i find decals for the F-4J (UK) Phantom?

Thanks!

A Google search yields this as the first result:

http://modelingmadness.com/reviews/mod/dixonf4jukpreview.htm

Yellowhammer also made decals, although they are long OOP:

http://modelingmadness.com/scotts/decals/yh/yh48014.htm

Italeri also includes this option in their reissue of the old ECSI F-4J.
