Hm. It's going to depend on what else is going to be there what determines if I go this year or not. I don't really get that hot and bothered over P-51s. It'd be nice to see Fifi this year, and I should probably only pay to go to one airshow a year, so... we'll see.

If the air force really is only supporting te F22 team at 20 shows this year that will mean no fast movers. Unless the navy steps up and sends their super hornet demo or one of the regular 18s. Without any modern aircraft they may suffer severely. Unless they can get a major draw like Fifi. Most of the crowds don't know squat about the WWII planes and are there to see the sure fast super loud jets.

It's a shame cause this year could really kill air shows around the country.

I second that. I'm getting tired of seeing Viper East there every year.

Steven L

That's fine but they would never be able to keep their head above water. The majority populace isn't spending money on air show tickets for aircraft they don't know anything about. Especially in an area where there isn't any Air Force bases or anything around. It never fails that every air show I'm at a B-17 or P-51, Corsair etc is flying and a kid asks their parents what it is and the parents have no idea. Soon as the jets fly they know everything.

My favorite air shows used to be these small shows up near Cleveland at small rinky dink airports. They would be nothing but WWII planes and would have about 30-40 planes in attendance. Every aircraft was accessible and they all flew. Those shows don't exist anymore due to increasing costs and poor attendance. But at least everyone there was there for the warbirds.

What about the old days when air shows were supported by a short routine put on by whatever AF or Navy unit(s) were local? The Selfridge open house had Michigan F-106s and F-100s. They didn't fly airplanes all over the country, and the local pilot(s) could get needed flight time while killing another bird (the air show) with the same stone.

It seems to me that like much else in America, we're no longer happy unless something is 110% top premium all the way. We have to have a dedicated F-22 'team' in addition to the USAF's official team (the Thunderbirds), a dedicated F-15E team, etc, etc. For TOM I'd be very happy to see a short performance by a 107th A-10, a 171st KC-135T, and maybe an F-16 from Toledo.

Call me old fashioned.

Fifi?! YEAH BABY!!!!

I was on the fence about going, but if Fifi is there I will definitely make the trip! I wonder if "Ol' 927" will accompany her..I haven't seen either of them in years, and haven't seen the B-24A since her big makeover (supposedly she was going to revert to her "Diamond Lil" noseart a few months back, but I haven't heard if it was actually done.)

No word on the B-24 yet, but the B-29 WILL be offering rides! Also, two new P-51's were just added

Couldnt agree more, Viper is cool, but a change would be nice. Some people just DONT KNOW HISTORY like some of us do. I was 2, and telling WWII VETS what they flew. I dont mind jets, especially Will Ward's MIGs, maybe even one of these new civilian teams, but our history needs to be remembered.
