Marlin
Hi everyone. I've now started my first non IDF/AF aircraft for years. I'm going to build an Su-7 BMK from the Egyptian Airforce. I'll be doing one from the Yom Kippur/Ramadan War in october 1973. I'll be using an old secondhand bought Kopro kit and lots of resin and PE goddies. Neomega cockpit BIG Ed PE-set (the Pavla seat came with the kit) Decals from HI-Decal and my choice of paintscheme and some weapons from Eduards MiG-21. I've not decided what loadout I going to use yet. Tips and suggestions are welcome. I've already painted the cockpit. And I've cut away the plastic airbrake wells and replaced them with Eduards PE. The aux airvent will also be treated with Eduards PE. Continues.. /Bosse
Marlin
Continued. I've started on the wings as well. Quite thick plastic. I had to use the razorsaw to get them of the sprue. Since my version are going to be the BMK I also have to shave of the bulge around the wheel wells. That took around two hours with hand tools to get rid off. I've still got some sanding to do. But I'll be doing that when I've glued the wings to the fuselage. The Su-7 is larger than I thought it would be, almost the size of a Phantom II To be continued.... /Bosse

Uncle Uncool
Hey, It's not an IDF/AF plane this time! No, it ain't; although it's still a plane closely related to the IDF/AF wars. Yeh? Wouldn't be our Bosse otherwise, methinks. Hi everyone. Whut's up, Bosse, my mate? Bloke, me's missed watchin' yer plastic surgeries on here! How're Emelie, Eric 'n' Axel doin'? Marlin
Thanks All. Yes it's a brute of a kit. I'm going to let it take the time it takes. @Uncle: I'll convey your greetings to the kids. And no, we've not yet had any snow, thankfully. After the last two winter we've had, I'd quite happy if we didn't get any either. Take care /Bosse
Diego
Decals from HI-Decal and my choice of paintscheme Hi Bosse, Great choice and nice progress! I am sure, it will be an real eyecatcher when finished! If you go with the EAF scheme, please note that the "factory" scheme, as shown in the color drawing above, never included brown. It was always sand with only green fields. The colors were similar on EAF and Syrian Su-7. Later, the Syrian birds repainted in-county received a slightly darker and more yellow sand shade... There is also an Egyptian designed yellow/green scheme included in our decal sheet, that was used on their Su-7 during the early 1970s (i.e. also during the Ramadan war) You can also look at the armement options diagramm included with our decals. Bombs, unguided rocked pods or S-24 rockets would be the most used options. Fuel tanks were practically always carried, the Su-7 being a thirsty beast, only for short range missions across the Suez canal a full bomb load could be carried. HTH Greetings Diego HDL Edited November 10, 2011 by Diego

Droptanks and four S-24 rockets seems like a "cool" weapons load. /Bosse
Marlin
Hi, I've been working on the exhaust today. Add some PE Looks much better than without. I've also glued the nosebullit together. Eduards instructions says 10grams noseweight. But i filled the nose with so many small lead sinker I could get to fit. So I guess I've loaded it with around 50 gram. Better be sure, I don't want a tailsitter. The rest of the exhaust is also finished. Some PE structure in the pipe. This is going to be the exhaust petals. This wasn't half as difficult as I'd imagined it. And I'm very please with the result. To be continued... /Bosse

Marlin
Hi, Time for an update on the exhaust. It doesn't fit ! Soo I donned my thinking cap, read all articles about the Su-7 here on ARC and elsewhere to find a solution for this. After that I took out some knives and files and started to get rid of the inner one of the two ridges. Test fit. OK, on the topside, but not on the bottom. Soo, I did some more thinking and came to the conclusion that the ring on the bottom of the exhaust tube is to large. So I trimmed it about 1mm with my trusty Stanley knife. And that did the trick. Now the exhaust is glued in place. Hopefully the nosecone and cockpit will fit better... To be continued... /Bosse
Dndieje
Hopefully the nosecone and cockpit will fit better... To be continued... /Bosse Hi Marlin, If I can give you a little tip for gluing the tail on. Best thing to do is to remove as much plastic as possible from the inside of the base of the tail. Bit difficult to explain without pictures but when you glue the tail halves together the base of the tail is a flat surface. You need to glue this to a curved fuselage however. I found that if you remove the plastic on the inside of the tail base (bit like you would with a vacform kit) you won't even need filler for the tail. Hope this helps. Dndieje
Thank you Dndieje, If I understand you right I have to carve an inverted U-shape in the base of the fin to get a good fit. Best Regards /Bosse Exactly ! the base of the tail is flat but the fuselage is curved. Best thing is to remove the inside of the base altogether. A bit of the tail "sticks out" behind the fuselage but that is easily covered with a bit of plasticard. This is a lot easier than filing or sanding the bottom of the tail assembly. On another note. To the best of my knowledge the BMK was never fitted with the "rear view mirror" on top of the canopy. When you fit all the scoops you'll find there is one little one left over. This one should go on the left fuselage half between the tail root and the long duct. There's a little mark on the fuselage where it should go (above the grille close to the tail root). This thing is not listed on the instructions. Hope this helps.
Aigore
This is a lot easier than filing or sanding the bottom of the tail assembly. Oh yeah, but is it as fun! B) I tell you, sanding putty is an under rated weekend entertainment!

erik_g
I tell you, sanding putty is an under rated weekend entertainment! LMAO! Interesting project by the way, the display tables at the competitions are far to light on cold-war era soviet-designed jets. /E
