jester292
Is there a way to build the Academy F-111 kits (for whats its worth, I have the E) with the wings swept? I don't really have room for display if I build it with the wings extended. Aaron
Modelmkr
Did you read the instructions? Just askin'...
fasteagle12
The wings are interlocking so they can move from sweep to extended. They also have a complex set of connectors that allow for the store pylons to pivot as they sweep. I'm not sure how well it works. My kits are not yet built.
AndrewPerren
Yep :D This build is basically OOB with very few modifications.
ixgr1
I would suppose you may have the Upgraded Accademy kit ? If so I see your problem with the wing sweap fuselage sealers that are included, parts S34/35. If you have the origanal issue these would be a sliding mechinisam of parts 42-45. With either of these kits, I personaly would just eliminate these parts from the proccess for a sweapt back wing option. I would further not include the Pylon mechinisam (parts 30,31,36, 38? and 39). I have never installed them, niether has any build I have seen. I also belive you would need a batchlor in Mechanical Engineering to make them RELIABLY work ?

Hi Steve Yes this is the upgraded Academy kit. I never include the pylon moving mechanism either. I have modified the new parts for the wing sweep seal to seal the hole behind the swept wing trailing edge.

Not only was A8-125 the first to land in 1973 but she was also the last to land in 2010.
jester292
Thanks for the discussion, everybody. I have an older kit, and yes I have read the instructions (thank you for asking). I didn't see any notes or steps that demonstrate building the wings swept back. Installing the part to "cover" or close the gap behind the wings forces the wings to stay extended. Will omitting this part allow the wings to be swept back, or will there be a large void still? Aaron
AndrewPerren
If you install the wings swept and omit the parts you are talking about then you will have a small wedge shaped gap at the trailing edge ( probably 5-10mm long). Its up to you what you do from there. A cover to represent the real item is not too hard to make from plastic card.
jester292
Thank you for taking the time to reply. I'll see what I can come up with. Aaron
