vise101
Hello Gents: I am just getting ready to paint the underside of my Revell Lancaster, and am wondering if some of you could describe how you get a really nice realistic finish. I tried it on a test model but was not really happy with the results. Thanks in Advance; Kevin
Andre
I've seen good result with adding red / brown to the black paint, believe it or not. This gives a "scale black" finish. You can then accentuate panel lines etc. with straight black. HTH, Andre
vise101
Is that adding both colors or just red or brown? I used an RLM 66 for the base coat and lightened the panel centers but I just doesnt look right to me. Kevin
billbuccaneer
Kevin, Try spraying Floquil "Grimy Black," on the entire bottom and then go back and very sparingly spraying the middle portion of panels black. Accentuate panel lines with a light gray.
Netz
I wouldn't go too wild with the shading, the Lancaster had a pretty even coloring and were a semi gloss black, not a whole lot of fading, especially on the bottom side of the a/c. I'd also try the red/brown to the paint. Curt
vise101
Thanks for the tips guys. I will try the red/brown since I have those and I am going to look for some of the grimy black. The grey panel lines I will try too. I will practice on another kit and I will post here so you guys can critique and offer some more suggestions as well. The Lanc is a gift for my dad so I want it to look really nice. Thanks for the info Kevin
