DMold 1/48 F-4 intake question

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has been asked before but I did a search and the only thing that came up was the thread about the pirating.

My question is, would the DMold F-4J/S 1/48 intake set fit the older Hasegawa F-4B/N/J/C/D kits with the raised panel lines? I have both the older kits with the raised and recessed panel lines for the F-4J. I noticed that the wing and intakes for the newer recessed panel line kit doesn't quite fit the older raised panel line kit. As seen in the pictures below you can see the differences. If I try to attach the newer intake to the older kit there is almost a 1/10" gap to be filled. I also tried to attach a True Details intake to the older raised panel line kit and it seems that the True Details intakes are for the newer recessed panel line kit. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since the DMold Intakes are designed around the recessed F-4J/S kits and are straight replacements for the kit supplied intakes I would say that they wouldn't fit the earlier raised detail kits.

Thanks for the quick reply. Would anyone know if there is a company that makes the intakes for the older Hasegawa 1/48 F-4's with the raised panel lines?

Another thing to note about the differences between the raised panel line F-4's vs. the recessed panle line F-4's is that when trying to attach the True Details intakes to the older F-4, there is a considerable step on the right side intake. If you look at the pictures below you can see another gap at the top of the intake and on the side of the intake. The True Details left side intake does not have that problem. Also when I try to attach the newer Hasegawa intake to the older fuselage the plastic intake has the same problem.

The True Details intake lines match the fuselage but the intake seems to be shorter than normal. You can see the fuselage is considerably higher than the resin intake.

The True Details intake also sticks out too far on the top when trying to attach to the fuselage. Again, the True Details intakes will only fit the newer Hasegawa F-4's with the recessed panel lines.
