Today a clip about F-111F operations during the 1991 Gulf War. It features F-111F's of the 48th TFW based at RAF Lakenheath, dropping LGB's on Iraqi aircraft shelters and some interviews with crew. Note that the narrator call the GBU-15 a laser guided bomb. This is an error, as they were TV/IR guided, not laser guided.

One EP-3E Aries and two EA-3B's of VQ-2 in flight near Gibraltar. VQ-2 was untill recently based at NAS Rota in Spain. VQ-2 suplied aircraft to the coalition forces during the 1991 Gulf War. This was to be the final conflict for the venerable Skywarrior, not bad for a plane that entered service in the early 1950's.

Today a link to a website dedicated to Det.3 of the 50th TFW. The 50th TFW was based at Hahn AFB in the Eifel region, and was also responsible for a number of detachments at other NATO bases. Selected NATO units had a nuclear strike mission, and the Luftwaffe unit JaBoG 36 at Rheine Hopsten was one of them. These German Starfighters would operate with US controlled weapons, and Det. 3 was responsible for them. A pair of F-104G's would be on constant alert at a heavily guarded QRA section of the airbase, with the warheads stored at the ammunition dump 3km's down the road.

Most pics are of the daily life of the personel during the 60's and 70's, but there's also some pics of the facilities and even one of a Starfighter on alert with a weapon on the centreline.

Enjoy: Det. 3

Thanks for the cool pics, Seb.

Today a pic of an F-102A of the 57th FIS, based at Keflavik, Iceland. The "Black Knights" were not part of USAFE for most of their time, but assigned to Air Forces Iceland, which was an ADC unit. Having previously operated the F-89 Scorpion, the 57th operated the F-102 from 1962 to 1973, after which it received the F-4C Phantom II and later the F-4E. The final aircraft assigned to the 57th was the F-15 Eagle.

Another cool set of photos, Seb. Thanks!

Today a pic of a HH-60G Pave Hawk of the 56th RQS, 48th TFW, RAF Lakenheath. The 56th sent a detachement of Pave Hawks to the USS Ponce (LPD-15) during Operation Unified Protector in 2011. These Pave Hawks were availlable for SAR/CSAR missions during the conflict in Lybia if needed.

You are correct Jan, didn´t notice that it was also a Skyblazers bird. Cool site.

Today a pic of two F-15A's of the 32d FG flying over their homebase at Soesterberg AB in the Netherlands. It's easy to tell the difference between the old Ghost scheme and the new Mod Eagle scheme here.

Today a pic of an F-4G of the 81st TFS, 52nd TFW in front of its shelter at Spangdahlem AB in Germany. This F-4G has a number of mission markings on its vari-ramp, which it accumulated in the 1991 Gulf War. The 81st flew its last F-4G out of Spangdahlem in February 1994, after which it started flying the A-10.

This specific F-4G flew for the last time as a QF-4G at September 15 2002.
