Helo_Dud
Vehicle Mounted Mine Detector (VMMD), These Huskies are made of heavy metal, and are designed to survive blasts from detonations such as those from improvised explosive devices (IEDs). “The Husky, equipped with an Interim Vehicle Mounted Mine Detector to detect hidden metallic explosives, is similar in construction to the mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicle, also known as the MRAP, with a V-shaped undercarriage to direct the blast away from the vehicle and protect its driver. Its single-operator cockpit is fitted with armored steel, ballistic windows and an on-board automatic fire extinguisher. The vehicle detects IEDs with its IVMMD, which employs both metal detection and ground penetrating radar sensors to find the deadly IEDs†Well I’m finally getting around to build this project since seeing it on the military channel. It’s going to be 1/35th made from evergreen plastic. My research took around two weeks to gather up, scale and draw up plans. There are two Husky’s out, the single operator MK III which is the one I’m building and the Husky 2G with has two operators. Down fall with this project is that I really don’t have reference for the interior cab, so I may end up guess-at-mating this area. For tires I’ll be using the resin set for the Buffalo MRAP version. The Husky also has two fender types, on rounded over the tire and the second squared angled…which I’ll be doing. For some of the repeated I’ll be making cast molds for those multiple parts in resin. More to come, Happy Modeling, Joe

Helo_Dud
Moving on…I started on the cabin area, I needed a way to detail and paint it once it’s in the Husky. So thinking about it while looking over the drawings I said why not drop it through the top. That way I can detail and paint it without any problems. A little detail that I missed was that the window frames are off by 1/2mm, yeah I know but it does show…at least to me.

Helo_Dud
Moving along, I did some more work to the main body. Here is the upper roof section where the driver/operator enter into the Husky through to panel doors. Happy Modeling, Joe
Helo_Dud
I’m not quite what these light are for but I do have an idea. I think they work when the Husky is in operation during X-raying. It’s starting to get a bit messy… This is the air canister and filter. Happy Modeling, Joe
Helo_Dud
Louvers, louvers and more louvers…finally I done with louvers. There’s not much more to do to the main body, next I’ll start on the tube structure chassis, fenders and so on. More to come later. Happy Modeling, Joe

Helo_Dud
Small update. I took some time off from this project to start and finish a few others. I hope to have this finished before the end of February Here are the fenders, what a pain. Next up are the shock mounts, leaf springs and axles. I also made the conscious decision to thicken the three windows and frames. Happy Modeling, Joe

11bee
I just read that both Dragon and AFV Club have announced that they are releasing plastic models of the Husky! They will be in the shops 5 minutes after you finish yours :) This is a most excellent build of a fascinating subject. Looking forward to seeing more updates. Are you going to include that CROWS remote MG system that was shown in one of the pics of the real thing? I'm curious how the single operator would be able to drive, monitor the GPR and metal detector displays, operate the CROWS and communicate with the rest of the world all by himself? Seems like he would be a pretty busy guy. Edited January 18, 2012 by 11bee
