Marlin
*** Copy/Paste from the General Section *** Hi Guys, I've started my JAS-39 Gripen. This is the one I'm going to do. (But mine will also have Amraams) This is the kit I'll be using. Best Choice edition of Italeri plastic, CMK resin and Eduard PE. I've also added Maestro resin wingtanks and recon pod, and an Isracast Lightning III pod. I've started to clean some resin parts and I'm at the moment cutting away the kit wheelbays. I'll be posting a full WIP-thread once the GB-section has been updated. Take Care and Merry Christmas to all. /Bosse ******************************************************************************************************* Hey we're online. An update will come tomorrow /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. I've promised an update and here it is. Box content. Not in the box, aftermarket item. The recon pod is enroute from the hobbyshop. T.B.C..... /Bosse
Marlin
Continued... I've started this one on Christmas Eve. And the first I did was to remove the kits main wheelwells. And replaced them wit the resin ones. Now I'm working on the cockpit. I've also have to remove the kits IP-coaming and cockpit backwall. The resin nosegear well is glued to one piece of the fuselage. Since the airbrake isn't deployed open on the ground I've glued it shut. Resinwells and airbrakes are included in the kit, but I'm not using them. And with that I'm off to bed. But we're not doing anything special for New Years so I suspect that I might be able to update this thread during the holiday. To be continued...... /Bosse
SoarinSukhoi
Lots of work to do on this one, but should look great when finished! I just wish another company could give us a great JAS-39 in 1/48 that doesn't require lots of resin and PE.

Perhaps some day we'll have a wunderkit á la Tamigawa of the JAS-39 Gripen. Then I'll build me an Airforce. Take care /Bosse

Aaronw
The Swedish airforce has had some really good looking jets over the years, the Gripen is no exception.
Marlin
Hi Gang, I didn't build anything during New Years. I spent it with my family instead. We actually turned Tv's, computers, Wii and PS3 off during New Years Eve and just spent the time together. It was kind of a odd feeling at first but then everybody did enjoy the evening without all the normal gadets that take up so much time. But today I've managed to steal an hour at the worktable. The cockpit is in the fuselage and it seams to fit alright. Everything seems to fit OK, perhaps I'll be able to close the fuselage tomorrow. I've started to work on the ejectionseat and the IP. To be continued.... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi, Just a quick update to show that I've closed the fuselage. The other winghalf is also in place. Now it's time to glue the wing to the fuselage. More to come.... /Bosse

Marlin
Hi. I promised more pictures and here they come. I'm rather pleased with the seems on the upper fuselage. And my Gripen has got wings. But the seems require some work. I'll leave this to set for a day or two before I'll continue on it. /Bosse
Aaronw
Looks like you are making good progress so far. You are at one of my favorite parts of building, when it finally starts to look like a plane. Doesn't look like you have had too much trouble getting all the resin in place, sometimes that can really be a mess.
Marlin
Thanks Aaronw. I didn't have any special difficulties with fitting the resin. Quite the opposite. Plenty of room for everything. I've now added the intakes. When this has dried I can start sanding all seems. Perhaps I can lay some primer during the week, then I should be able to start painting this by next weekend. /Bosse
Amen
Good work so far but you have a lot of gaps to cover, good luck!

Marlin
Hi. My SPK39 Recce pod has finally arrived. And I couldn't resist laying a coat of paint on it. Otherwise I'm struggling with shrunken resin and bad seems. The resin exhaust is too small so I cut a piece from the plastic one and extended the resin exhaust with it. I think I'll have the intake seems ready by a day or two. Even the missile rail has to have some putty. I've glued the Mauser-canon together, but there's a nasty seem even on that that I've got to deal with. So I guess I'll be spending the next couple of sessions with sandingsticks-, -paper and putty. But since this is a six-month GB I've still got some time... To be contined..... /Bosse
Amen
So much cutting and fiting on this build! Looks good so far Marlin
erik_g
I got pretty much the same stuff lying around (I guess the resin parts are CMK-stuff?), also waiting to be assembled as a Libya-Gripen. However, I haven´t managed to get hold of the Rippin Gripen decal sheet for the correct serials and fin number. Plan B is to mask and paint, but I am in no hurry. Also I am slightly put off by the need to scratchbuild correct pylons with BOP flare/chaff launchers and the AMRAAM-launchrails with BOL chaff dispensers. And then there are the three fuselage mounted chaff/flare launchers as well.. and the need to rebuild the APU bulge.. damn, why can´t someone (Hasegawa) release an up to date Gripen. But this thread gives valuable insight in the problems I´ll face. Maybe an aires nozzle is a better option than the CMK one, I am not to fond of the one I have, and the Aires nozzles I´ve seen have been very nice. Regarding the wings, the tip I´ve got is to glue the halves firmly to the upper and lower fuselage halves before mating the upper and lower halves, Too late for you to try, but it might come in handy for other modeller. /E

I've not so up to date on The Gripen /Bosse
